XBox 360 Wireless Controller PC Adapter Issue

Tried a search and couldn't find what I'm looking for...I got the 360 wireless controller adapter, installed the drivers, set up what I could in FFXIPadConfig...and everything but the triggers works, so I have no macros. I could set Ctrl/Alt to the shoulder buttons but that'd be annoying as shit since I'm used to the 360 version. Is there a way to get the triggers to work properly?

Wireless xbox 360 controller on the PC, sorry
If you had a wired controller, I would recommend: http://xbcd360guide.50webs.com/guide.html

I was planning to get a wireless adapter for my computer, but read that the drivers would not work.

There's not much you can do I'm afraid, aside from grabbing a joy2key application like XPadder or the sort to reassign the triggers to the actual Ctrl/Alt keys. That works to an extent, with the downside that you get the crappy slow-response macro bar pop-up rather than the otherwise instant one the controller buttons give.

I never really bothered with it much, so I just assigned them to the Back/Start buttons instead. Anyways, I haven't used my wirelss 360 controller on the PC in a long while after I realized Microsoft's drivers for it were raping my CPU in every single CPU-intensitive game I played, even when the controller or dongle was on/plugged in.
(I don't know if it was some sorta conflict with my rig, but watching the drivers take 30% of my CPU is something I doubt Microsoft intended)

You could always bug SE and ask them to implement 360 controllers via the xinput.dll interface as they've already done for the actual 360 version of the game, but I doubt they'd bother in this day and age.

[EDIT] It appears I stand corrected by Reality, never knew someone made their own driver for the wireless controller.

wireless 360 controller drivers don't allow you to assign the shoulder triggers as they are analog inputs, similar to the joysticks on the controller, whereas the shoulder buttons are just that, buttons

there's a japanese driver available that I use though, for this

    XP 32bit
    Vista 32bit
    Vista 64bit

this driver comes with it's own configuration utility that let's you use the shoulder triggers as digital buttons (on/off), there are issues with the dpad functionality though under FFXI, but it's pretty easy to fix, PM me if you have issues (as i'll need to reinstall the driver since my 360 controller is being used on my HTPC at the moment)

What i do is use xpadder and map the triggers to ctrl and alt. The macro speed is the same as if you are using the keyboard and its works perfectly fine. Been playing with the 360 wireless controller for over a year now.

only problem with xpadder vs what I recommended, is that you can't change the analog triggers to digital buttons. this is useful when trying to set what would be L2 on a PS2/PS3 controller (Left Analog Trigger on 360 controller) to auto-run, you can't do that with xpadder, you're limited to mapping stuff only to digital buttons

I don't mean to start any PS3 vs 360 pissing contests as I used a 360 controller on my PC for a very long time. As it's been mentioned, the triggers need special consideration when mapping them to keys. If you have a PS3 controller and your PC has a bluetooh card, you should be able to sync a controller to your desktop and use it to play. It took awhile but I finally got it working on my laptop and it's very nice since the first generation without rumble is light. If you google PS3 PC Controller Software or something, you should be able to find some results.
