Yes, and going from pre-rendered 2d backgrounds to fully 3d with realtime lighting, much more detailed models, better animations, etc is a hell of a lot more time consuming than simply making some 3d models and areas that directly coincide with the existing 2d maps, tweaking the battle system a little, throwing in a bonus dungeon or two, and paying some actors to come in for a day to read the script.
Still no reason why they can't do it... they just have a ton of projects going on right now.
So the SE event was today.. and.. unless I missed something, there was no big news about anything at all.
Versus XIII still PS3 exclusive, and some PSP games announced.
They had some announcements related to Advent Children, which is really what I was expecting all along when the rumors of a FF VII related announcement were bubbling up.
So in other words, crap we already knew, and hundreds/thousands of wasted time and money. Rock on SE.
This "big FFVII announcement" is that on the Blu-Ray version of Advent Children there will be two video demos of FFXIII Agito and Versus, and a playable demo of FFXIII for PS3 onry.
I dont know why people still get their hopes up everytime SE even mentions something FFVII related, They've said before the chances of them doing a fullblown remake are slim to none, since the staff that would HAVE to be involved (Nomura for one, and hes in charge of like 4 other franchises now for Square) are ALWAYS busy with like 2-3 other projects.
Short version: It wont happen.
Why do people give a shit if a remake happens at all? Let them make new games, not old ones with prettier graphics. If they want a remake, make it a small DS/PSP version like they have been doing.
If you hadn't noticed, that's all they've been doing with FF lately. Remakes after remakes after remakes, followed by the occasional port.
I'm actually happy that they're making new series (Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant) because i'm getting kind of sick of FF and the direction it has taken since the merge with Enix.
Well look at it this way. Look at how old FFIV (and by extension FFIII) is and how long it took SE to go for a complete reskin and remake of the game. Previous re-releases were simply ports and really didn't add much at all.
Now FFVII is a much larger game which much more content. I'm sure SE knows that the only remake people will be wanting is a full blown PS3 remake (thanks to the trailer they released around the time of the PS3 coming out). That is going to be a huge undertaking, and will damn near on par with doing a whole new game.
Yes, the market is there, but it also isn't going anywhere. SE is in no rush to try to squeeze this in at all. I have no doubt it is somewhere on the horizon, it will be easy money for them.
Didn't I already say that?
And I sure hope you don't think the merger with Enix had anything to do with the quality/direction of FF games. You realize ultimately that FF is just a name, it's all in the name, always has been, always will be. Their other new IPs are just other RPGs with different names, but somehow it becomes important when you slap the Final Fantasy name on a game. FF13 could have taken the direction of any of those RPGs, any of those RPGs could have done the same thing that FF13 is, but people seem to like bitching about something.
This thread is hanging on like Rinoa on the side of Balamb Garden.
I would be very happy if they even remade FFVII with Crisis Core graphics, since Crisis Core looked very good. (Hell, they could even reuse CC's Shinra building/nibelheim/shinra manor for all I care, all of CC looked fantastic.)
I agree exo, their direction changed greatly when the merger went through.
