As a side note, when im installing a processor I place it in the slot in the right orientation and gently press down, and then I flip the metal cover over onto it. At this point I flip the lever, when im flipping the lever it feels like a lot of pressure, is this right?

Yes, there is a lot of pressure, that's normal. It has to make good contact.

Finally done. The NVidia 750i Mobo that came with it was bad and wouldn't accept the GPU so had to get a new Mobo. Antec 900 case with 850W PSU, E8500, Sapphire 4870, 8 GB PC8000 DDR2, MSI Mobo with 750i chipset, and Vistax64. It sounds like a jet engine when I turn the fans on high and turn up the fan speed on the GPU.

Thanks everyone for your support, but I must admit I discovered that I have a profound amount of retardation. My other motherboard was not broken. I had flipped the switch on the PSU, but neglected to press the power button on the PC. For some reason I was rushing so much, that I had in my head the PSU should be on when I flip the switch. So after a week of talking to customer service and getting rush shipping, I pressed power, and all was fine. Vista is installing now, and I will sleep great tonight.

I was going to make a new thread but found this one so here goes!

I've been on a 4+ year old PC that barely runs the games I play on low settings and doesn't run the games I want to purchase whatsoever, so I've been putting together a new one. I'm having someone else that knows what they're doing assemble it so I don't break anything. Here's the pieces I came up with. I also asked my guild but they seem torn between a few things.

I know I could save a bit by downgrading this, but I'm happy with spending a good chunk on this. 22", 2 ms and 1000:1 contrast. I'm pretty set with this unless I find one with the same specs for cheaper. I'm currently stuck on a box made for a 800x600 resolution.

Picked this because it came with a power supply, supposedly decent.

Other than that I have a cheap keyboard set aside, a CD/DVD drive and plan on picking up 4GB of RAM. I'm currently torn on the OS. All of my other computers have had XP so I have had no experience with Vista. One of my friends recommended Vista64 but another said don't use Vista for your primary WoW machine.

Thoughts?

edit: Woops, almost forgot to mention that the price is sitting at right where I want it to be (OS, monitor etc included). My upper limit was 1000 and this is at 950. Any suggestions would have to be sidegrades

I swapped over to the E8400. A friend of mine had good things to say about it. It comes with a decent mobo combo too (very similar to the one I originally had listed).

Regarding the GPU, would you say the HD4850 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102747 ) outperforms the 9800 and 8800 GT?

And yes I also need a HD, I'm just dumb and didn't mention it. Does the HD type matter much? I just picked a random 99$ one listed.

It's only a small test, but a 9800GTX hits 300~ fps on the game we're making, my HD4850 was more like 450~ fps

It's a really nice card for the price.

You might wanna dig back a page or two and find the thread I made about the machine I built a few weeks ago. It's turned out really nicely and it's pretty much on your budget.

Things like going for a p45 over a p35 board seem to have made for a really stable build.
