Does wearing proper gear in campaign matter?

As the topic states, do you believe wearing proper gear in campaign battles matters? Note that I'm not talking about melee red mages, white mages and such, I'm talking something like this:

That some people believe is perfectly fine to campaign with. I decided to post this so we don't derail the gimp players thread any further.

wearing the proper gear matters a little bit...but more importantly is your skill.

i've seen plenty of skilled players going naked on a job just because it would take them way too long to swap gear and that was the job needed.

definitely true that gear makes a difference though, but if you got gear that fits it's usually better to use it than to use nothing at all.

I'm inclined to say "no," but better gear means I hit harder, faster, more often. I block more often. I die less. All this means more XP and more AN per battle.

So it matters, but not as much as some people think.

This is my stance as well. Plus it doesn't matter if you're just standing at the Tag NPC spamming songs/tags.

"Proper gear" really only matters in three situations:

1. When it's your own gear.
2. When it's the gear of the people in your own party/alliance in Exp, HNM, or endgame event like Dynamis and Limbus, directly affecting your experience of the game.
3. When you're the kind of guy who gets off on feeling superior to others by judging the choices of rival LS members or random passersby.

Situations 1 and 2 don't really apply to campaign or besieged.

Some of the people in that thread genuinely deserve to be laughed at, though. Not because "oh they're in a rival LS and rushed out here to fight after their LS claimed something so I'm gonna make fun of them on BG" but because they're fucking stupid and have no clue how to properly gear themselves and/or play their job. Or because they're too lazy to properly gear themselves with even the most basic, cheap gear that's appropriate for their job and have chosen to make the rest of their party suffer their gimpness. The people I hate in that thread are the ones who post town gear and rival ls gear thats so fucking nitpicky it's retarded and they're just trying to find any excuse to insult a rival linkshell. If people would use the thread for what it was actually intended for it wouldn't be so bad, but as it stands, you have to wade through 5 pages of stupid shit just to find 1 person who genuinely deserves to be there.

You don't need gear for campaign to max out your exp unless you're an idiot... I usually change jobs and rush to campaign, just grabbing important pieces of gear that would drastically increase my performance, and sometimes I throw in stuff I had from my other job just for the sake of not keeping slots empty.

Yes, because whenever I need 2k xp to recap a job, im gonna pay 2k to get my relic out of storage, then im gonna go to bastok to get other gear out of my mog storage, then run back to campaign. Im not saying thats the case with this guy, but for the gimp/confused/wtf player thread, campaign should = town gear. Fuck no it doesnt matter.

I think fuckers being lazy and 1) not doing Campaign Ops and shit to help their country & 2) standing at the NPC singing then exchanging tags has more of an impact on the landscape of Campaign than people wearing whatever kind of gimp gear they have to Campaign.

Would you rather these ill-equipped people be in Campaign or out in your XP party? I know which way I'd vote.

My favorite job for Campaign is DRK/WHM and I fulltime Parade Gorget and sometimes even wear Homam Zuchetto for shits and giggles!!

Gear helps. It's not critical, but like anything else you'll do better properly geared.

I've seen near-naked Scholars singlehandedly reverse a fight with Tabula Rasa'd Cure-gas. Would they have done it better wearing more than a Federation Aketon? Sure.

I hate when someone grabs a mob to solo it, and can't handle it, then decides to just zone it to the MH, or run it to someone else with a monster, so I get that delicious situation of run into the path of other monsters...
