There is a *lot* to this game man. But basically I don't like having a swordman as main (when your main dies, you lose the fight, so uh having them on the frontline absorbing the dmg = nono).
At 43 I had this setup:
Spear Sword(me) Axe
Gun Archer Spear
empty Shaman Monk (monk is defensive buffer/dispeller shaman is healer)
In next beta if there's going to be a wipe I'm just going to experiment a bunch, if not this is my current plan:
Axe Sword Spear
Archer Exorcist(56) Archer
Shaman Axe(me) Monk
I'm also considering an 8 archer experiment heh. Would be rough to level up in pve, but for pvp it would be hilarious, 10 attacks on the main character between heals no matter what's between em, or just 8 and silence the front 2 rows.
There's also a whole thing where combining certain attacks on enemies does massive damage, and there's the fact that you only get 1 skill point per level, but some classes can learn up to like 5 abilities, and they all cap at 60 skill points. I could go on and on >.> but there's a whole lot of different ways to build your team and there really doesn't seem to be anything especially over/underpowered. Maybe freezing axe, that shit's crazy.
Edit: in the end you'll probably need 2 separate builds of mercenaries, one for pve and one for pvp. You also don't even get the 2 best known mercs, Lady Knight and Spartan until 96 and 100. The big grind looks like it's going to be in leveling your extra mercs more than anything.
Honestly this game has me freaking hooked and I think it might for a long time lol. Anybody wanna buy a pally with 2 gladiator mounts and a geared rogue?![]()
Bump for next phase of beta, opens tomorrow (Aug 7) at 6pm Pacific.
I'm going with Axe main this time, something like this:
Axe----- Sword----- Spear
Archer----Spear----- Gun
Monk----Axe main---- Shaman
Frontline sword and spear will eventually be replaced with Lady Knight and Spartan, Axe with something that's not in game yet, and shaman with Oracle or whatever the better healy guy is.
Axe has a move called Freezing Axe. At first it just freezes one opponent. At level 20 it freezes a row of opponents for 1 round. When fully upgraded there's people saying it can freeze for 3+ turns.
They also attack 3 people on normal attacks. There's a mechanic in game where if a character is hit in 3 consecutive rounds they get "stunned" for a while. Hitting multiple targets is best for taking advantage of this, obviously.
I messed around with multiple spears and a gunner blasting through 2 mobs at once, but it kind of defeated the purpose of the axemen-- I'd clear out a slot so that I could reach the 2nd row with freezing axe while I beat down the front row, only to have the 2nd one be so low it would die from the freezing axe leaving me unable to reapply it on that row. (there has to be something with nobody in front of it to do freezing axe)
And, basically, the 2 biggest weaknesses of Vikings (the npc version of axe) are slow action power gain and low magic defense, making it your main gives waaaay higher rate of ap and quite a bit better magic def.
Initial setup will be
Sword x x
Spear x x
Axe main x x
A whole lot of people are going archer main because it gets silence, which doesn't prevent normal attacks but prevents any specials, from a whole row, and it can reach the 2nd row. It can't, however, reach the 3rd if there are 2 toons in front of each one. Soon as you knock down a first or 2nd row guy it can reach the 3rd tho. And archers can always reach any row with their normal attacks.
Edit I actually said that kind of wrong, silence and freezing axe are single target before first upgrade (level 20 and a bunch of crystals), they're multi target for the main right away
found 2ed round closed beta keys. if you missed first round:

Ah, I don't need a 2nd key since I already participated in the first?
Welp, I just stole someone's spot, haha.
Fun game, I got to level 30 in the first Closed Beta, can't wait till it starts up again tomorrow.
PREP TIME!

lol.

They added a limit to how much you can level a day, I guess all those Lv60+ people after the first week made 'em mad.
So, who's starting the BG guild for this game?
lol...
Yeaaaah I just saw the stamina shit and now I'm pissed right the hell off.
This is a truly amazing game and that system is literally like they sat around going "ok guys, we've got a really damn fun game that people are completely in love with and so hooked that half the people are talking about how between betas they couldn't even get back into any of their other games cuz Atlantica was so impressive. What can we possibly do to fuck up the entire thing in one fel swoop?"
SOOOOOOO pissed off, the ways to regen better give a ton of it back, and fast.
As far as guild I'm sure I'll be the first level 20, but I have a guild from first closed beta that I was planning to go back to, we had London and were in the top 10 on guild list. I'll figure out what's up with that and see what everybody wants to do.
Eh, hopefully it won't be as bad as it sounds, or if they get a whole lot of negative feedback they'll boost how much stamina you have.
I don't think there's much question about the feedback.

edit, it's just going higher and higher, now 178/6/4/1
Wow. People must really hate the system before they even get to try it. I hope these owners are smarter then Rohan's and actually listen to their players.
They are failing massively right now.
First the stamina bomb.
Then they release the download an hour early-- on fileplanet... and fileplanet makes it paid subscribers only.
Now it's out everywhere, and you have 3 choices: be a paid subscriber at one of the file hosts, rape the shit out of ndoors's bandwidth with a download manager making a ton of streams, or enjoy a spiffy 5-15KB/s 400 meg download from one of the like 3 free servers/torrent being used by 5000 people.
You finally get that done...
And there's another patch. This one's especially lovely-- it only works through the load screen updater and is beyond retardedly slow lol.
Seriously, it's just like I was saying earlier lol, it's like they said hey we've got a great game about ready to go, how can we get rid of most of those damn customers?
Edit: wow, not just slow, it dies. Constantly. Basically just plain doesn't work.
I DLed the patch from Filefront and it only took me 20 minutes. D:
Yeah, don't log off. Soon as you do you have to do another patch and this one is completely fucked.
edit: You can now get in (provided you have the first patch done) by going to your ndoors/atlantica folder and starting via atlantica.exe instead of atlanticarun.exe
So who's there? Layla got grabbed again so I'm Leyla again.
I'm in, name is Juro, as per usual.
level 10, 70 stamina left, going out quicker now due to shitty luck with quest mob groupings
btw running into mobs doesn't seem to put you in combat anymore have to actually click them, which is nice
