    Restart your PC.

Serious responses please, stating the obvious doesn't help.

Have you checked to see if the firefox.exe process is still running? Sometimes that happens, and it prevents you from being able to open it. Restarting would also fix that, so in that sense it's a serious response.

If you have checked for that/restarted/etc and it's not working, then yeah, try a reinstall.

You shouldn't lose your bookmarks. However, if you're paranoid, just go to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\PROFILENAME.default and make a copy of the bookmarks.html there.

Uninstalling it won't delete your profile information (bookmarks, cache, history, etc) unless you specify.

Make sure Mozilla isn't starting up by running in the background; check your processes to make sure it isn't buried in there somewhere.

Anyway, you can always copy your bookmarks by taking the bookmarks.html file located in the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx\ directory.

    EDIT: beaten

If you are really paranoid about losing bookmarks try something like foxmarks synchronizer. Also nice if you use multiple machines.

Just posting for future information ... if you need to backup your Firefox configuration and bookmarks, I would suggest using MozBackup (mozbackup.jasnapaka.com)
