Also, not to jack the thread, but it is related. when taking the time of a ph or the actual NM, do you take the time after it disappears or just when you kill it? I have always taken it when it disappears because its is a placeholder and it still counts as it still being there.
When the name disappears, not the model and not when you kill it in the log.
Think of it as a slow, painful death... Where it is still alive after it falls to the ground, and sits in pain and agony for the next 10-15s until finally passing away into hell, when the name fades. That, is the time of death.
ToD, Time of Disappearance =p It's when the mob disappears.
It's highly likely that every mob that doesn't pop from a placeholder lotto has windows. It's simply too much of a strain on servers to constantly check if a mob should spawn every time a tick occurs.
Lottos with placeholders obviously won't need windows, since their spawns are tied to the mobs that they spawn from, thus limiting the processing in the first place.
given the behavior of spawned mobs (respawning after sleeping X ticks from death) it would be -possible- to set up random spawn time nm's by sleeping a random number of x ticks from death. (say a range, from 1hr-3hr in ticks randomly generated at time of death)
I don't think there are (m)any nm's that do this. but it's not a strain on the servers at all to set up a sleep timer like this on key nm's in their zone - since most servers only admin a limited number of zones and most zones contain a limited number of worldspawn nm's. etc.
Not concerning NMs but just concerning zones and monster pops. When my LS was camping the baby HNM (Roc, Serket, Sim etc etc) someone once told me each zone works on 30 second intervals. This person did prove this to be fact one day when camping Roc.
Every zone is different because each zone comes up at a different time after a maintenance. You can double check this by killing a mob and recording exactly when it repops. Say the Mob repops at the :17 second mark then you know the pop times for that zone are :17 and :47. This at least works for NMs who do not have windows. Tested once long ago on Kings but always got side tracked tryin to claim to jot down the results.
This is also why mobs that aren't killed at the exact same moment can repop together. You notice this sometimes when in a strong merit PT It's not much of a break but if you do have a clock with seconds handy it helps a little bit. When camping the baby HNM it really helped from spamming the entire 3 hours to spamming a couple seconds every minute and spending a few extra seconds looking around to see if it popped a little out of view.
Knowing this information of course can give you the ever so slight advantage over ppl who focused the entire time and could become a little lazy.
All NMs have a window just players have not figured them out. I know a JP player who will log out at Bune camp when no one is camping or just me (since he knows I never kill) and will log in just before Bune pops everytime. (Like log in wait logout until he logs in and it pops before he logs.) King arthro has windows it goes like this.
ToD (when he disappears) plus 21hours 5minutes then every 15minutes. I'm sure someone won't understand that lemme explain
Died at 5:00 pm pst 21:05-24:05hr repop so FIRST window starts at 3:05 PST the following day and every 15minutes after that is a window. 3:20 3:35 3:50 etc. I was under the impression Sim, Serket, roc etc all them would have similar windows but KA is like this due to his knight crabs (5minute repops)
It is 30 minute windows, he's wrong.
edit: id rather be nice
