I thought that it was pretty much a common consensus that Herschel Walker was the best college football player in the modern era. I would have to say that Vince Young's 2006 nat' champ performance was probably the most dominant single game performance ever, but one game doesn't make him the best ever.

Taking Herschel out of the equation, VY is easily one of the best 5 college players ever. Just because someone has played in the last 5-10 years doesn't mean they can't be compared to players of 25 years ago. Hell, today players are faster, bigger, stronger, and quicker which makes it even more impressive.

If you were to do a college draft of all the players, Walker and VY are probably the first 2 picked. Maybe even VY over Walker because you could get a back without losing much in the stat category(great college backs are beyond plentiful, even players like Shaun Alexander are college legends). There isn't a threat on the table like VY when it comes to that given situation. Sure, there was a lot of running QBs in college with good numbers, but none were like VY.


Edit - btw I wanted Cutler in the draft. I am happy we ended up drafting VY though. He will lead us to the SuperBowl in the next handful of years.

Actually you could pick up Tommy Frazier and not lose *that* much from VY, tho VY would be the clear cut favorite, but I totally agree about the backs thing.

It's pretty hard to single anyone out really, you can't forget the ridiculous dual threats like Deon or Charles Woodson, it's hard to argue anyone has dominated their own position at a level comparable to Orlando Pace, and then the linebackers... jeez don't even know where to start there.

To me VY just takes the cake because Texas was kind of like Nebraska right now, a respected perennial contender on a downswing before he came in. Texas was never the team in the big 12 you worried about playing before Vince, they had 1 big 12 championship in 96 and not again until he won it all. Not only that, but he got put in a situation you couldn't even dream up-- a controversial heisman loser vs the guy that won it over him PLUS the guy that won it the year before... and utterly and completely dominated the game.

Finally, news is settling around that this Favre bullshit may finally be over. He's been talking to Tampa Bay, and there may be a trade in the works as reported early this morning/late last night. So Rodgers will probably be the Packers starter, and Favre may go to the Bucs within the next 24 hours.

ESPN is pretty much saying it's official that he's gone but not positive on what exactly the deal is going to be.

Would be kinda funny to see Garcia go to Chicago and win a super bowl heh, honestly I'm kind of surprised at the bucs going after Favre really, I think if Cadillac could stay healthy they're a contender already with Garcia.

Might have to find a way to get tickets to the packers @ bucs game lol

I definitely agree that Favre is the better player, by a fair bit, but man that's John Gruden's offense and he's got 1 month to learn it, and the fact of the matter is every game is a big game when you're the bucs right now.


It's kind of interesting actually listening/reading what they're saying it sounds like Favre really was basically not willing to even talk to anybody other than the Vikings, and just like yesterday decided he'd talk to the bucs finally. Sounds like the Jets are trying to convince him they're playoff-ready so he'll talk to them too heh.

Yeah. After the meeting he had with the Packers where he voiced his reasoning behind not wanting to play for the Packers, he probably figured his only hope of playing is if he went to New York/Tampa Bay, since the Packers' head office wasn't willing to trade within the division. The Packers still have to play the Bucs though in Week 4, which better be nationally televised. >.>;

Hrm, that's pretty funny. I dunno, maybe Texas Tech is better than Texas as far as the power rankings go within the Big 12 due to scheduling? o.o; If not that, then I don't get it, haha. Hell, Auburn #10 in the power ranking and Alabama #23? D: I don't think Alabama belongs in the Top 25, and AU definitely isn't #10. Silly preseason rankings.

As for Farve its pretty simple. He knew Greenbay wasent going to allow him to play or compete for the job when it was all said and done. LMFAO @ McCarty saying he had some "abdominal strain" keeping him from practicing today @ his press conference which is a bullshit ploy.

I am so sick of seeing these anaylst's calling brett farve a "Diva" when the fact of the matter is the only thing we know is at some point in time things went sour between farve and GB organization. I think this has been going on for atleast 3-4 years minimum and it finally blew up sometime after the NFC championship and march when he called it quits.

Favre wanted to be the general manager of the team.

Players play, coaches coach, managers manage.

The front office put enough talent around him to get to the NFC title game and he keeps fucking crying on his $12m/yr salary. If that's not diva I don't know what is. If the football season was 11.5 months long, maybe Favre would be ok, but when he's not playing over these past few years he's just been a pain in the ass.

Things went sour when he started thinking he knew better than the GM, the talent evaluators, the coaches, etc. He apparently is crying about not getting Mariucci as his coach when they hired Sherman. Etc. etc. - when it comes down to it he's one player, not a god, and he doesn't like that.
