You wouldn't wish he'd go away if he was coming to Minnesota. =P

Also, obviously, we aren't getting the entire story between Green Bay and Favre. Just chunks of it because the rest is in private. I hope down the line, we find out what exactly happened, because I think the only thing Favre is guilty of is being wishy washy about wanting to play the game he loves.

I just hope if he ends up in Tampa Bay, he has fun with it. That's Favre's redeeming quality; he has fun with the game. I also hope this shit ends today because as much as I've liked him, I've hated this drama story.

This is how I pretty much feel also. How can you hold emotional press conferences and weep on TV about your tank being empty as far as not knowing if you want to play or not and give 100%? Then have the audacity to change your mind a few months later? I love watching Brett Favre play, but if you recall about 2 weeks before the draft McCarthy, Thompson and someone the Coordinator flew to Mississippi to see if he was interested in coming back.... Again he said "absolutely not and he was enjoying his family."

Fast forward to the draft, they Draft Brohm and another QB under the assumption that Favre was gone for good. Planning Jersey retirements and what not then BAM! Out of the blue "Hey I want to play again lol, I got the itch...." I mean c'mon he is Favre I know but you cant lead someone in one direction and do a complete 180 in a few weeks.

I for one hope he sucks in Tampa, mainly because he is in the NFC south with the Panthers what the hell is up with that? Falcons get Ryan and sign Michael Turner, Saints get Shockey and Johnathan Vilma now the damn Bucs are on the verge of getting Favre?? Then Steve Smith is suspended the first 2 games of the season, it's gonna be a long as season in the NFC south. We already have Buc fans trolling and lol'ing the Panthers boards @ charlotte.com with the Favre to Tampa news.

    /sigh.

I don't see anyone as douchebags (well, maybe McCarthy). I think Ted Thompson is a fucking idiot. I personally hope that Favre goes up against the packers (week 3 or 4?) and fucking destroys them. I don't give a shit about an emotional retirement/press conference. I think the Packers PR machine turned and convinced a lot of people that Favre was the bad guy. The guy just wanted to play, wanted to play so bad he turned down 20,000,000 in free money. That's dedication and passion, much more passion than was exhibited in that retirement conference.

Week 4, and iirc, the total ended up being 10 years/$25million. If he wanted the money, he would've taken that.

A guest on "Spanning the Globe" had to leave abruptly on ESPN radio's "The Herd". Said that Gruden was up at the podium. I haven't heard anything since.

    No kidding.

I think this move could backfire for the Bucs. Garcia's certainly not as good a QB as Favre, but at least he knows the system. If the Favre of 2006 comes back, they could get worse. I don't necessarily see Tampa getting significantly better from this move, at least for the first part of the season until Favre gets his groove on.

This clearly benefits the Cowboys, Giants, and Seahawks, though, who suddenly don't have to worry as much about playing in Lambeau in January, and the NFC South looks that much more likely to beat itself up.

You didn't lose Steve Spurrier as a head coach, but he turned over his right to call offensive plays and I think he's letting his son do it? I'm not 100% sure. You'd have to check.

I agree somewhat. I think it could backfire, but if Favre has another 2007 season (which is rare considering that was one of his best seasons ever), then the Bucs would benefit. The Bucs still have Joey Galloway right? While he's lost a step due to age, he's still fucking fast so with Favre's way of firing one downfield, Galloway could have a great season coming up.

I think it does help the Cowboys, Giants, and other teams of the NFC, and makes the NFC South a little harder now that the Panthers, Saints, and Bucs could all legitly win the division. Not sure about the Seahawks, but I guess they are always in it when in the West.

    Update: Gruden conference

A whole lot of nothing, didn't deny anything, didn't confirm anything. He doesn't want to speculate, leaving the door open, all the code words for saying "Something is happening but it's not finalized..."

I wish we could find out what really went on behind closed doors.

McCarthy seems to be implying that in the end he was ready to offer Favre a spot on the team but Favre didn't want it anymore because he felt he'd been wronged. Not hearing anything new from the other side of it at all really. Who's to say though if it's because he felt he should just get the starting job handed back to him and they want a competition, or hell it's possible he went in there and offered him a chance to be the backup to Rodgers.

Honestly I think that's what that meeting before the draft was all about (I had completely forgotten about that btw), I think the Packers officials were thinking they had a good veteran backup sitting down in Miss that would come back in a heartbeat if Rodgers went down, and went to clarify that before drafting 2 rookies to fill the "official" backup spots.

I definitely feel bad for Garcia, and oh man if Favre goes there and Chucky refuses to get him out of there that's going to be a fucked up situation. If it were an "open competition" there's just flat out no way a guy that's been in that system for less than a month comes in and beats out a veteran that's been learning the system for 2 years and played in a similar system pretty much his entire career. Eventually Favre could be better, but if they're both there, they pretty much have to start Favre right away even though he won't be as good for the team early on or else the whole deal becomes completely retarded.

What I really hope for at this point is either Favre going to the Jets and having another season like last year with some postseason success, or Favre going to Tampa, Garcia going to Chicago, and all 3 teams facing off in the playoffs. Could make for the most exciting NFC year since the Bucs defense crushed everything in their path.

Favre said before reinstatement that he'd be happy to compete for the job. McCarthy has remained adamant that Rogers is the starter, and that changing that would be poor leadership. Favre isn't going to sit back-up, we know that. As far as Favre to the jets goes, it'll never happen. Clayton broke it down earlier (and he seems to think the tampa deal will fall through): 1-4, 1 being most likely, 4 being least likely.

    1. Favre to Minnesota
    2. Favre to Tampa
    3. Favre to Retire
    27. Favre to Jets

Apparently Clayton's not too bright because Favre to Minnesota ain't happening.

    also um

Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, confirmed Wednesday in an e-mail to The Associated Press that the Buccaneers and New York Jets were emerging as the most likely trade destinations for the three-time MVP.
