I think it is mostly because of the hate a 6-persons erase spam can generate (see Diffusion > exuviation).
Also: DMG 43... MAGES DO NOT MELEE (in any situation worth it) GDIT! Notice it, please.

We don't even know what the Alexandrites cost is yet, or that they may revise the necessary steps in order to obtain the gear.
But yes, I do see your point when comparing it to PUP.
Is this really a problem with RDMs? Who doesn't put up blink and/or stoneskin before converting? :/Originally Posted by Pikko

The melee weapons look great, Pup get a huuuge boost and the drg weapon is pretty good too. So why cant SE get it in their heads that we want full time mage weapons that are worth the time and effort to get and have a huge bonus. I can fix that weapon in 3 seconds. Replace mac.acc/MAB with Enhances Regen/-enmity and take off Double Attack and put on cure potency+20%. Was that so hard?
That would be terrible too. A good sch weapon would have to be like the blm one, a ton of fulltime MAB/M.Acc and INT. Fuck the double attack bullshit. If I want to melee I'll switch jobs to one of those.
The idea of lots and lots of people needing multiple specific drops out of the 100th floor of Nyzul to cover their favored jobs to quest the new WS is depressing as hell.
Mages getting fucked over, yet again. Sorry guys.
I'm pretty sure that is a mistaken assumption.
SE said: Weaponskills will be obtainable without upgrading a Nyzul Relic.
This got turned into: Weaponskills will be obtainable without upgrading, but you still have to get the stage 1 drop, even if you won't follow through with the upgrade.
Just for complete translation sake, here's my translation of the Yagrush article! My French is a bit rusty, but this is pretty much what they wanted to say. Hope this'll be helpful!
Beginning part is just an intro to the whole thing and how Yagrush is the new relic for WHM.
"La principale particularité de ce club est de conférer un Divine Veil permanent lorsque le club est équipé (NDLR : C'est du moins ce que m'a expliqué Mochi, bien que je n'ai pas pu tester cette fonctionnalité, nous la confirmerons au plus vite), ceci restant dans l'optique annoncée par SE avec ces Relics Weapons "d'améliorer le rôle du job".
The principle thing about this club is that it gives a permanent Divine Veil as long as the club is equipped (NDLR: This is all what Mochi explained to me, but I didn't get to test this function, so we'll confirm it as quickly as possible), this is the probably in SE's original intent that these Relic Weapons would "improve the role of the job".
=====
"Le club possède également une double attack et sa ligne directrice d'Aftermath est d'améliorer les pouvoirs magiques du whm qui l'emploi. Ainsi, plus vous aurez de tps, plus vos capacités magiques seront boostées"
The club possesses double attack and the Aftermath appears to improve the magic powers of the WHM that uses it. So, the more TP you have, the more your magic capacities will be boosted.

"Mais venons en à l'une des particularité les plus intéressantes de l'arme : sa Weapon Skill. Sans égaler des armes orientés DD en matière de dmg infligés, Mystic Boon propose une feature des plus intéressantes lorsque la Relic Weapon est équipée. En effet, tout Mystic Boon effectué avec Yagrush entraine une conversion d'une partie des dégats infligés en mp ! En l'occurence, plus qu'une simple ws pour faire quelques dégats ou skillchain, Mystic Boon agira également comme mp heal."
But let's see one of the more interesting traits on this weapon: the Weapon Skill. Without equalling DD oriented weapons in terms of damage dealt, Mystic Boon offers a very interesting feature when the relic weapon is equipped (Thank you Newzarb for the correction). Basically, Mystic Boon with Yagrush will convert part of the damage inflicted into MP! So in occurrence, more than one simple WS to do some damage or a skillchain, Mystic Boon would be very much like an MP heal.

Whew... well, there ya have it. I should have most of it right. I'll edit it if anybody sees any glaring mistakes!
RDM weapon would be ballin for those aspiring RDM tanks.
So in order to get new weaponskills... something thats been desired by players for a number of years - you have to clear nyzul isle?
Really SE? So way to say "fuck you" to everyone whos been doing Salvage and cant afford to use tags on Nyzul Isle. How long have players been asking to split the fucking systems now?
Oh well, bring on the COR gun - my hopes that it is comparable to the BRD horn are just waiting to be extinguished.
Edit: Im seriously hoping the weaponskills alone dont require the stage 1 weaponry.... and that this is a big joke/mistranslation.
Weapon-skills restoring MP isn't exactly a new thing, even then it's still nowhere near efficient for mage jobs. I'm not a WHM but the "Enhance Divine Veil" thing seems to me like something that should have been a native trait.
QFT. An item with this effect should have been implemented in the game a long time ago, and at worst made a semi-uncommon drop from a HNM or something similar. At this point they might as well stop trying to give relic weapons to mages under the pretence that the crappy, vaguely mage-related additional effects and enhancements make up for the fact that mages meleeing is almost never a good idea and just give them relic ammo or relic necklaces instead.
If the BLM weapon's description contains the phrases "Magic Accuracy" or "Magic Attack Bonus" not in conjunction with the phrase "+100" I'm going to hurl some Alexandrite through SE's employees' windows. I'm betting it's going to be something underwhelming like "Conserve MP +50" or, knowing SE, "Clear Mind VI" but without any hMP present.
The funny thing is that if you do Nyzul Isle the "real" way and have your disc wiped every time as is intended this will take an absolute eternity to get people their desired weapons.
Doing it the way most folks do it and having the disc-holder warp out you're banking on the 5% chance that the weapon that you need drops before you run out of tokens to fund floor 95 spam. People who want multiple weapons or are just plain unlucky will go through hell over this. Edit: Oh yeah, and have fun being the guy that gets to warp out and not roll on weapons.
I really hope this proves to be untruth. Why can't we just learn new WS through merits? Sure it would be time-consuming but at least it would be progression that didn't have to suffer through random number generation for once.
Yeah, I saw that he posted that, but didn't read any confirmation anywhere in the article or any other article for anything along those lines.Originally Posted by Gahoo from FFXIclopedia
The post a little up the page had him saying that in a different way, about how "upgrading isn't required" which I believe led to that assumption.
I hope to shit I'm right, trying to get a sturdy axe just to get a new WS to fuck around with would definitely be a big fuck you, as opposed to "well, I'm not motivated at the moment to go into the upgrade process, but I can still play with part of it."
For comparison: It's kind of like if they just said you can get [Insert whichever Dynamis Relic WS you drool over here] without getting a stage 5 relic (4 in dyna)... you just have to get a stage 2 (if you're really fuckin lucky, or just erase your disc, fuck everyone else!) to 3.5 (if you have to climb over and over and over and over and over) to get it.
The fact that you don't have to have the weapon on you to use the WS, and it points out that you can use the WS with any weapon makes requiring the first stage of the upgrade seem kind of odd.
The Divine Veil thing is a nice "balance adjustment" for WHM after they gave Scholar Accession -na. Unfortunately, I don't see this as a very obtainable fix for most of the player-base. Still, a WHM with permanent Divine Veil would be pretty ridiculous for covering AoE status. Huge improvement for 1 item I think... Regardless of how bad the other effects on the club are, I think this buff alone makes the item invaluable.
I personally think it's relic worthy. I hope the other mage weapons have similar changes. Putting big numbers on the same old enhancements doesn't really change the way jobs can play, but something like permanent WHM Divine Veil would.
I agree with you on all counts; but this is SE we're talking about here. We can shout "That makes no sense!" and "But my Salvage static keeps me from doing Nyzul!" or whatever we want as loudly as we'd like to but for them this is just another lovely timesink to drag us through if it turns out to be true.
Lets be honest here. If this is going to be a quested WS; theres going to be some requirement to flag the quest. Hopefully it really isn't as silly as the "Bring me your job's matching weapon to learn that job's WS". It wouldn't be quite so bad if you just had to bring a token of proof that you beat the 100th floor in the form of, say, any of the weapons regardless of their class. That would give a legitimate use for those repeated drops of COR or PUP weapons that folks get to trash before doing yet another run on floors 95-100 hoping for more Great Katanas.
I want to believe in your words. But this is SE.
