The only weapon so far that is borderline absolute shit is Red Mage. I think that's fair considering we've seen less than half of them. PS: It looks like MNK AF2 shoes in the first picture

I'm hoping for higher denominations dropped from NMs/boss chariots, increased drop rate (4+) from ordinary machinery, and perhaps some optional NM/??? for bonus alexandrites.

The entire news update could have been simplified into one paragraph. Seems to me that the wordiness is meant to detract from the painfully obvious cockblocking 50,000 alexandrites imposed on anyone who planned to upgrade. On the other hand, I'm glad that they introduced the quest even if it is half-implemented. At least we have guidance for the other parts of the upgrade process, which I'm certain nobody has finished already.

I call 10,000 for the new quota. If the "new means" of acquiring gems are everything I hope for, ~9000 alexandrite should be introduced into circulation over 3 to 4 months. Incidentally, I may become broke 3 to 4 months following the September patch.

Whereas the successful upgrading of a relic weapon demands that a player repeatedly participate in Dynamis runs, and subsequently requires a potentially large sum of gil, the mythic weapons are tempered by players fulfilling a series of conditions over a prolonged period of time. Though the means of acquiring relic and mythic weapons may differ greatly in many respects, a number of factors were taken into account before the introduction of the latter to ensure that the eventual time required for obtaining them would be roughly equivalent.
A general survey was conducted to ascertain several important facts regarding Salvage and the alexandrite drops within. These included, but were not limited to, considerations such as how many instances of Salvage were being run by players, which routes were being taken and which enemies fought most frequently in each area, and an overall gauge of player progression through Salvage. From this data, an estimation was extrapolated of how much alexandrite would drop server-wide on any given day. Following the introduction of the mythic weapon quests, we were able to confirm that the alexandrite drops were occurring on a par with what was assumed would be the case. The overall amount available for distribution, however, was judged to be overwhelmingly lacking.
A battlefield challenge will be added in the next version update as the final step to receive the Nzyul Isle relics. Also, the cost in Alexandrites to obtain the relic weapons will be reduced, and changes are planned to make collecting the currency easier.

Suddenly Mythic Weapons don't seem so bad.

AM effects have been confirmed to be longer than a breadbox. Until we know how much longer, I still consider the effects significant enough to contribute to the weapon's value.

I zoom in and the shoes look the same. The first pic is kinda hard to see, but you can see it curl up like in the 2nd one. I could be wrong obviously, and then there's the whole 'SE likes to pick out random gear' thing, but there ya go.

With the current drop rates, 5 Alexandrites per salvage run is a generous estimate.
Group going every day of the week would get 35 per week, or 1820 per year.
Over ~28 years they would get the 50,000 needed.
If instead say there are 50 hardcore salvage groups that go every day it would take ~28 weeks for 50,000 "drites" to drop.

I suspect Nyzul Isle machines will now drop them. Or they may surprise us and have some new ISNMs with machines. 10k drites seem a bit high still to me, but 1-5k is very reasonable considering the exclusivity of doing salvage or nyzul and needing to do both to upgrade.

Agreed; all three pictures show the dude in Askar with different weapons so the person getting owned by the WS is probably meant to be us.

If the final BC is a 1v1 with Balrahn I'm going to shit.

    Stage 2: 1 week
    Stage 3: 2.5 weeks
    Stage 4: 11 weeks
    Stage 5: 12.5 weeks (borrow 30 coins )

Total: 27 weeks of pure city whoring.
    I think that's about right?

Iirc the einherjar part and 150k token part would take about 7 months?

At least it's confirmed you can get new WSs without needing the weapons. But if it's like a mini Maat fight then PUP's is going to be all down to luck again, just like the BCNM60.

"Oh shit Harlequin, np I've got hi-pots, I can't..." MAGIC MORTAR! "...die."

Oh, and every entry to the battlefield eats your level 100 runic key. Just for luls.

I think SE did this on purpose. They didn't want anyone to complete the relic before they release the second patch for it.

Jkun, you must be a horrible puppetmaster.

But he's a soulflayer in Hazhalm, unless when you become a flayer your body becomes a vessel for the beast within (or something) and you kinda "die". But then again he's the only guy that would make sense.

Really makes me hope that rumor about only having to do this once is true. Be nice if the BC is the only thing you have to repeat; even if a Mythic initially takes longer than a Relic to produce, any subsequent Mythic could take a lot less work.

Well, God knows it wouldn't be the first time they changed a mobs name, but even if they don't do that, Balrahn was probably one of the first Blue Mages. Due to their chaotic nature, that could mean any number of things, maybe even replication. If I can pull something like that ridiculously cliched DBZ plot line out of my ass, SE can dig up something weirder and actually get you to gobble it up, no questions asked.

Also, I'm still hoping Balrahn is actually Gilgamesh (there was a BLU who never died, it's possible). Bunch of weapons? Eyepatch? Kind of a douche to some of the people he takes 'em from?

I bet you only have to repeat the 3rd quest (alex., assaults, eyepatch, the book) and the BCNM to get another weapon (and of course get the NQ from nyzul). If SE was nice upgrading second weapon would only take 2 of the 4 needed things for 3rd quest but I donnn't see it happenin'.

Also, my guesses for the new ways to obtain alexandrite:
-Chariots, with command chariots (bosses) dropping extra or something super special (I don't think -any- chariot drops them currently)
-Nyzul ramparts or something from Nyzul, but at a very low rate to keep it a mostly Salvage thing
    -New popped Salvage NMs
    -Reinforcements? Beastmen? (Salvage-only)
    -ZNMs?
