    ATI Radeon HD4850

Any issues with the game with the new 4800 series from ATI/AMD?
Id like to hear from those currently running these cards in their machine.

I remember getting the 8600GTS when it was still the latest series and it didnt like playing with FFXI at all(before the fixed drivers).

Screwing customers despite having their logo on the box seems to be NVidia's specialty. You should be fine with an ATI.

I've heard no bad reports about the 48xx range and FFXI

Thus far, it runs fine for me. Only issue being (gasp.) Bastok flags appearing fragmented up close, but that's the only issue thus far, although I have yet to venture to whitegate with the card. Probably be fine.

Runs TF2 well enough on max minus AA, despite not being FFXI. Things get hectic...fast.

You should be good! (Note: more specifically, I have a HIS Radeon HD4850, but yeah, same card.)

The only problems that HD4850s cause are in Nvidia's accounting department. ATI pretty much hit a home run with that chip.

    Loving mine.

I replaced the stock cooler (or half of it) because it kinda sucks.

    Temps?

Also, props on being yet another G15 user. =) That's what mine looked like before all the finger wear marks...

39C idle, 48C load with 33C ambients. The high load temp is probably because I overclocked the core to 750.

I wash the G15 and it's keys every 3-6 months to keep it feeling fresh.

Pretty good. I just learned the other day that some of the existing Zalman fans work with the 4800 series, so I shall be picking up the card in the next little bit.

Is that cooler the Duoorb? Also, how difficult is it to switch the stock cooler off, I'd like to myself, but really don't wanna screw it up....

It's a HR-03GT, 120mm fan (can't see) and half the stock cooler which I cut in half.

That's casting a pretty big shadow... is it dual slot with one for exhaust?

God damn I wish my cable management was that neat. Did you mount that little 80mm fan on the chassis?

Hard to tell in the picture, but it's on the PCI-e and SATA cables (4 of them) with one zip tie holding it tight against the PCI-e power cable.

My cable management is alright for a Thermaltake Armor, but could be a lot better with a different case, or me taking the time to drill proper holes.

If I showed you the inside of my case (P180), you'd cry. I might though, 4870 purchase inc anyways.

well i got the card, its an upgrade from a 8600gt.
Benched it with 3d mark06 and my points went from 5600+ upto 10000+ =D

Its a full size card but the cooler doesnt take up a second pci slot. When i went into ATi's overdrive menu i noticed my temps were 80 degrees Celsius idle c,c so i went and looked up the card and there was an issue with the driver not automatically throttling the fan speed based on load and temps.

Look up "radeon HD 4850 fan fix" on google and it'll give you a simple solution to manually set fan speed at your desired level. The only shitty thing is the speed will run at that set speed continuously (mines set a 65%) and that lowered my idle temps to 45-49 degrees celsius load around 60+. so yeah if you get this card and not too comfortable installing an aftermarket cooler this fix should work just fine c.c 65% fan speed is audible and will mask out any other fan sound you may have lol but its not so bad until they roll out a fix for the fan controller portion of the driver. Overall great card!

oh hay mootsfox nice cable management there, i got that same silverstone fan! XD what case is that you got pictured there?

::edit:: sorry missed it in ur previous post hehe thermaltake armor nice case, i was wanting to get it when i was building this system but it was gonna put me over my set budget lol
