Anyone know of some good NES games?

The Guardian Legend, it's a Treasure game. It's sort of a hybrid between an adventure game and shooter, alternating one of each type. Capcom's licensed stuff from that era is pretty much all gold too, from Little Nemo to Ducktails to The Little Mermaid.

Agreed, that stuff is surprisingly good for licensed NES crap. Ducktales is classic, I've beaten that many a time. I was the only person in my household who could even play it, nobody else could get Scrooge's pogo controls down lol.

I beat Milon's Secret Castle without game genie or save states when I was bored one night in high school. The ending sucked.

Battletoads remains the hardest game ever for my money.

Crystalis is one of the most overlooked NES action/rpgs. Great game.

Crystalis was cool. Not living up to snes rpg, but nostalgia factor work pretty well if you played it back then.

Lolo series is amazing if you love puzzle game. It's probably my favorite puzzle game ever made.

Frustrating game to play at times, but it was a fun side scroller

Aside from the Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasyand the Legend of Zelda series, Star Tropics 1 and 2 were pretty badass IMO. Crystalis was an amazing game and I love that they remade that one for the Gameboy Color. The Adventure Island series was fun as hell, same with Megaman. If you want a good laugh there's always that McKids game that was based around the McDonald's characters.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, my ROM folder is gonna be overflowing... a lot of these games I have played or at least knew of but I couldn't recall most of them at will.

As far as Faxanadu goes, however... that game was pretty bad in retrospect but it was perhaps the first or second RPG-ish game I ever played and I have such incredibly beautiful and vivid memories of it. I was utterly entranced by the atmosphere, the story, the gameplay. I still remember I couldn't get past the fountain dealy before I had to return it (only got to rent the thing). It's probably among my top five games as far as nostalgia goes, I remember going to Funco Land every damn week for years hoping someone would have sold them a copy, they never did But then I discovered emulation and all was well.

Does anyone else who played it remember the shop in the first area that for some reason carried end-game items like a kick-ass sword and the Death spell? I farmed gold for hours to afford that crap, and it was so satisfying beating the shit after some of the early enemies afterwards...

On a totally unrelated note, shame on all of you for not mentioning Battle of Olympus yet. Fucking awesome side-scroller/adventure game which is actually still somewhat decent even today (wonky hit-detection aside, using that club was a goddamn pain in the ass, and the teeny-tiny sword wasn't much better).

I had my girl over one day and showed her my NES Dreamcast CD. I told her to pick anything and we'd play. What does shit pick? Fucking BATTLETOADS. So after we died a lot I suggested North and South. After beating the piss out of her poor excuse for a confederacy we switched gears to River City Ransom and that didn't work out either because she kept unintentionally beating the shit out of me.

I didn't even bring out Jackal. I need a real pro with me to tackle that war front.

I fail to believe it was an accident. You can't even beat RCR in 2-player mode because kicking the shit out of each other, picking each other up, and tossing each other into chasms is so much fun that you get completely derailed and quit progressing in the game. Hands-down my all-time favorite NES game, especially for 2 players.

Someone else said it already but Contra is right up there with RCR as far as 2 player fun.
