Server Transfers - A Year Later

I know it's been over a year, but oh well.

Anyways, I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks of players being able to server hop now that we've been subjected to it for over a year now. I remember when they were first announced that the majority were against them, so I'm wondering if that changed since then.

I don't think it was as bad as expected mainly because of how well the background check forum has been going.

    Good Points
-Good players got off shitty servers.
-Some servers got rid of shitty players.

    Bad Points
-Some servers got stuck with new shitty players.
    -Everyone moved to Bahamut.

I think it's worse than anyone ever expected. We were expecting assholes to use it to try to evade the just consequences of their actions. But I don't think anyone was expecting for RMT (or Taj) to jack your character, move it to another server at your expense, then having it stuck there for weeks while SE continues to give bad customer service. Plus, cross-server trade is a new revenue stream for the RMT. It's a classic example of how the customer isn't always right (maybe the majority here were against it, but not the majority of the overall playerbase). I'm not looking forward to the proposed face change at all.

It all boils down to SE's bad customer support.

I moved 4 times before coming to Bahamut. Been to Cerberus for 3 years before leaving for Ragnarok. Didn't stay there long, kinda wish I did, but then I went back to Cerberus like an idiot. When back to Ragnarok AGAIN, but had to quit the game. Came back six months later, made new character on Cerberus >_>;;. Friend intices me to come to Bahamut, she wastes my money later on though by not playing, but whatever, I like the server and not going anywhere. I think it's good for people who are looking for a 'better home'. "All servers are the same" is only accurate in a few areas.

And of course 2 of my movings were before the transfer was instated. I had to start new characters.

I wish there was some kind of vetting system or a questionnaire with it or a waiting period so the RMTs who jack accounts and server transfer them couldn't do it so fast. And also so if you were a complete idiot on a bought account you couldn't move to another server.
It would also be handy if the server transfers required you to be invited to the said server and without x amount of "vouches" or "invites" you couldn't move. Some sort of open system as well where you could view all potential server transfers on POL and give anti-vouches to possible applicants to your server to ban them from entering would work. That way good players who have genuine friends on other servers could still get through. Just some crazy ideas, that would be way too much work from SE to actually make happen.

I moved from a pretty decent server to a pretty decent server mainly to join an EU ls. Personally its been great, I enjoy the game but I'm not willing/able to dynamis at 1am-4am with my work.

I'm glad that the bg checks system is in place, I think without it you'd find more people doing shady things and running off to find a new server.

I can't see any issues long term unless they let you change appearence or anything retarded like that.

I've never liked the idea of it, and very often when you start hearing people talk of their second, third, fourth transfer they're on their way to quitting anyway, but seem to prefer paying $75 or more for the privilege.

There are still a lot of people on each server; if you don't like your running crew, I don't see how moving to a place where you know NO ONE is better than having an understanding of who's who and server subtleties, which could aide you in finding a new group of friends.

Perhaps I'm biased, though. Unless an off-server group accepted me and twenty of my closest friends, I wouldn't even begin to consider leaving my server. The streets are cleaner, there's less crime, and we've got fantastic healthcare.

I think a lot of EU players are glad to be able to transfer. I've seen a lot of threads about people looking for a server with a decent EU endgame LS. Luckily I haven't been one of them as my server already had a good EU LS.

We've received a few nice and helpful people thanks to the transfer system. Unfortuately we've received more people who are not.

I think the idea would have been much better if it was a one-time only thing, per account. The only really useful thing that could ever have come from server transferring is fixing mistakes or getting on the same server as someone you met after you started. There need not be a waiting period and the ability to move again or any of that shit. If you move, you should be stuck there. That's just my opinion though. Perhaps the ability to move back to your original server once as well, if you move, but nothing beyond that.

    Overall I don't like them.

I moved to Sylph when I burned out on sack responsibility in my Valefor endgame shell.

Then I got swamped with school and was pretty much never present in Tekki's shell. So I moved back to Valefor so I could play with my boyfriend the few times I had time to log on the game.

This spring/summer it eased up a li'l and I found a new shell. And I can has endgame and play with mah boyfriend.

Lesson learned: Gras ain't greener on the other side.

I can't believe how many people switched servers acting like "on server X, Fafnir pops every 5 minutes and shits kittens and sunshine."

Karasu receive close to thirty cross-server applications. We accept only one of them, Pesmerga of Hades (now: Onimusha), and he's worked out great. I think my opinion on this can be nothing but skewed, but I honestly feel that most server transfers are pretty shady players or characters that no one wants in their linkshell anyway.

I was actually debating changing servers. Not for a grass is greener on the other side thing, but just for a change. I have 3 RL friends on my server now, 2 in the shell with me. From the shell we are with, to the top shell on the server, well there really arent many inbetweens; maybe 2-3 shells in the gap. We only do like limbus and sky... thinking maybe finding a bit higher pop server with a few more active shells or just a place to get more invites in the 20-50 range.

A change of people could be fun, new friends and faces ya'know, could be interesting. Just gotta find the right place to go so we don't throw away any money.

I originally moved from Hades because my wife wanted to get away from the server. We headed for Seraph where we had some friends, and brought some of our friends with us. I liked it there, but it was somewhat stale... and when some drama happened with those friends, we decided on a change again. This time Caitsith, and I dunno, I still haven't really settled in here, but I changed my name back to my old one. I'm actually considering going back to Seraph.

Every single SINGLE one of our cross server applicants has failed. Either been kicked, left or never shown up. We've entertained probably 6-7 so far and our application process is now completely closed to cross server applicants.

I left from Pandy to Bismarck, best decision I've ever made. Pandemonium is a baron wasteland in every sense of the word in my opinion. I'm sure anyone can make that case for ANY server out there, but I came into it as a realist and with real expectations.

Had it not been for server transfer I would be closing in on my 2 year 7 month anniversary of dropping this game. So from my aspect it was a godsend.

Server transfers are probably the reason I'm still playing.
