You and me both, I think A LOT of people fall into that category. I think initially the attitude was "He/She transferred they have something to hide.." which was not the case whatsoever. Many people began on predominately small server that worked on more of a clique mentality, I know that was my case so to speak. Although I had and still have a shit ton of friends on Pandy I still keep in touch with them on the outside world.

I am finally having a lot of fun again.

I've contemplated changing servers, but I have a few good friends on this server that I would not want to leave no matter what.

I've had people transfer to this server only to dissapear without a trace after a few weeks and also people who you have played with for years and who just pack up and leave for another server. Makes you wonder why you felt responsible for them in the first place. Though all of that isn't inheritly due to server transfers but just something thats happened more often due to it being available.

Personally I'm not very fond of the server transfers. It puts me in a position where I get the option of going to a new environment where I hardly know anyone but I know there are a lot of people from the same country as me (the netherlands) but with that it would mean I'd have to drop all the responsabilities I have in my current server leaving a decent limbus/sea shell and salvage group and most of all the friends that I made here. Next to that is the 'hefty' fee involved considering I usually play 2 accounts but have access to 4 where I know I'd miss one if I only transfered the others or cough up about $100. In the end my brother still occasionally plays a mule on his account where I kind of took over his main and I know he doesn't want to switch servers regardless of him not having a linkshell in this one and all of his friends are NA and hardly ever online when he is (once a week), so I won't either.

To me, server transfers either means you want to take the game to a new level and are unable to do so on the current server you are on. For example the trend of EU looking for succesful EU endgame shell. Or people who are on their way out and hope to revive their interest in the game by switching to a new environment which usually ends up switching + quitting a few weeks later. Obviously next to that you have the RMTs and assholes who switch for obvious reasons.

I'm in the "I'm only still playing because of server transfers" camp. If I couldn't have played with my friends, I never would've gotten back into the game.

It wasn't that bad for my LS, but so far most of the cross-server apps did indeed suck, despite background checks always praising the people in question.

Made me wonder if people in general have such low standards or were just trying to get rid of these people >_>

Everyone moved to Bahamut for good reason. I'm glad I was put here when I started, I'm not going anywhere, I like it here.

I did contemplate moving when transfers first came out to join an EU LS, but I'm glad I didn't, I have too many friends here to go. Most server transfers in my experience are flakes or fence-sitters, I'm sure there's some who are decent but I've yet to see any truly outstanding people who came here from another server. Mind you I don't go out much.

    I personally loved it.

Some rl friends of mine started to play after I had quit, so they got a diffrent server. I would never have come back to play with my friends had I not been able to move my character over. There was too much gear and time put in to start over again, While I've helped them with Rank, Cop, and RoZ missions since I started back up, I would have been dishartneed to have to do them all again for myself.

The 'you only get one' idea would have worked well for me, but maybe not for everyone. The only reason I even conistered transfering in the first place is friends, that seems to be a pretty common theme here.

Server transfers were part of the reason I quit the game. Seeing the gimp ass, shitty skilled rejects of other servers constantly get kings and take 45 mins to kill Fafnir every day got old.

My Wife and I also moved for friends. I was /away from game for a year, and quit doing HNM/Dynamis the prior year. She got back into playing as our Friend in the Military is rocking some FFxI abroad, and I moved because she was, and that almost all the old folks I played with, were no longer playing on our 'Birth Server'.

I've been pretty light in play the last few weeks, but I upon playing on Shiva, I did some Coffer Camping for some /sh folks, XP'd BRD in a Party, and solo'd a few jobs from 1-15 or so.

I'll miss out on the massive amount of Dynamis points I picked up in my Ragnarok shell, but I think that shell folded long ago anyway, excluding the fact that playing Dynamis was like Torture, especially when you could call which of the 'Pickup members', would be the one to aggro 1/4 of the Zone and let us embrace a wipe and fail.

Eww Dyna, My Wife will never miss me sitting @ my PC swearing up a storm 2x a week, for 3+ hours a run.

    2006, I don't miss you that much.

Anyways, I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks of players being able to server hop now that we've been subjected to it for over a year now. I remember when they were first announced that the majority were against them, so I'm wondering if that changed since then.

I don't think it was as bad as expected mainly because of how well the background check forum has been going.

    Good Points
-Good players got off shitty servers.
-Some servers got rid of shitty players.

    Bad Points
-Some servers got stuck with new shitty players.
    -Everyone moved to Odin.
    Adjusted for correctness.

I hate the server transfer thing. So many of my friends got hacked and transferred servers for 6-8 months before SE would do anything and get their accounts back. Server transfer only upped the RMT activity imo. Worst idea they have ever had for their players. Best idea they have ever had for their income. The amount of money they are making off server transfers is stupid.

My LS has had a lot of server transfer applicants. We only ever accepted 3 all of which went through a BG background check. First quit the game shortly after but was a nice guy and we had np with while in the LS. 2nd quit the LS. 3rd joined just recently and is working out fine so far.

There may be some good that comes out of it however imo the good in no way outweighs the bad.

It has its perks, but to me, the cons far outweigh the pros.

Sure, we got rid of a few douchebags on Midgard, but we also gained 2 server transfer shells, both of which have tried to MPK and steal from the original HNM shells that have been on the server. Nothing like tanking Cerberus, and some assholes come and bring a ass load of trolls and fight them on top of the tanks, all the while spamming spells and shit.

We've also had veteran members leave our shell after getting rewards such as E.body, Ares's Cuirass funded by LS bank etc, without saying a damn thing.

But I have no problems with people just wanting to start fresh on new servers, or have RL friends on other servers, I too have contemplated it, but starting over in a new HNMLS is just too daunting for me. I just have problems with the assholes who get as much loot as possible and fuck off without as much as a "Thanks" or "Good bye".

Normally, I would be against server transferring and there definitely need to be more protections in place to prevent hacking and RMT. But my LS has completely lucked out from server transfers. I am in a non-HNM end-game LS with mostly real life adults playing, and we have gotten 7+ amazing people from server transfers. Most of them were in HNM's and gave it up because of the headache and drama surrounding it. In fact, we have become quite the refuge for people who just hate the grind but still love events.

I do have to laugh at the server transfers that came to Odin and tried to set up shop as if they could muscle our native HNM shells. Odin has a couple of very entrenched and very stable HNM shells, a couple that float around the edges, then several like mine, end-game but non-HNM. Odin's end-game scene is very stable, and has been for a long time, and it has always boggled my mind that people would come to the largest server and think they could somehow take over or even compete. I may have issues with individuals within the HNM LS's, but in general the HNM LSs on Odin are incredibly well run, very hard working and in general rather civil, and when they are not civil it still never reaches the depth of drama that I have seen on other servers.
