    No beep during POST

So power went out on Friday, PSU is dead, it smells, I took it out and got a new one ...
Now the problem is, I get nothing during POST. No beeps, no nothing.

Is it safe to assume that the MOBO is dead and possibly the CPU? I'd hate to get a new MOBO and the thing not work as well. It's almost 4 years old the machine but it's served me well.

    Thoughts from anyone here?

I can almost guarantee that the motherboard is dead if POST isn't running. The same thing happened to me with an old motherboard I had; when I replaced it the computer ran fine. Be sure to test video/sound cards etc. too because it sounds like the whole machine might have gotten fried =/

is your case speaker attached? i know mine isn't, if it isn't attached you're not going to get a POST beep.

but i'm guessing it used to beep when your PC started up, and you're used to hearing and all of the sudden it stopped?

Yeah it's hooked up. Also, there was a weird fan sound that was happening, when I was trying things. Sounded really bad. I changed around a few power connections on the new power supply and it stopped.

But reading more, I think the MOBO is def dead. And I'm not sure about the CPU yet.

If the PSU and the mobo got fried, chances are your processor is KFC (Kentucky Fried Chip) at this point.

most likely, but there's always a chance that it's just minor damage to the board

I had an old board (it was a pretty nice board, too) that had the AGP slot fry from a power surge

Videocard still worked after that lol

MOBO is dead, and the CPU isn't coming on. Found out what the weird fan noise was a cable was hitting the heat sink. As soon as I moved that it stopped.

Any suggestions on a budget MOBO / CPU combo?

    Shues,
I use my macbook pro for most everything, but its nice having a reliable PC.

I was able to play WoW on it full settings and everything worked fine. Other than that, pretty much nothing big.

As far as budget, nothing too too much, I know that's not a lot of help, but I haven't bought anything new PC wise for over 3 years. The PC just worked and I used it as such when I played FFXI and WoW and Oblivion all till I got my Mac.

So, any suggestions you might have bud, I'll take.

It's a BFG Card with 512 ram on it. I don't know the exact specs of it, but I do know that when I got it 2 years ago it was rocking. PCI-E

    Want cheap like; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116063 & http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128084 ?

Or want to spend a few hundred more and go with something like an E8400 45nm chip?
