...just kidding, fuck that fat bitch. I think Luc in Suikoden III might be my favorite for many of the same reasons given for Vayne. He was a hero in his own way, he was trying to save the world, he just had to destroy a large portion of it to succeed at that goal. The scene of "ultimate order," where you get to view what the world would be like at the end of time if Luc didn't succeed, was chillingly bleak, almost made me wish I could let him win.

I loved Leknaat's speech to Luc at the end of the game. Something like, "You challenged God like a fool."

I don't remember that, I really need to replay the game. Hell I need to replay the whole series (except the first one, I've probably played it three or four times by now since it's so short and easy) (and except the fourth one because fuck that game).

I want to beat the fourth one just to see Ted and so I can upload the data to Suikoden Tactics, which I've owned for like 4 years and have yet to play once.

Ted is one of the few saving graces of that game, I got far enough to get him, in fact I'm at the last dungeon just haven't entered it/beat the game. Getting him is totally worth playing that far though.

I should do the same as you, I have Suikoden Tactics and haven't even started it... blah, too many games too little time, especially when you play an MMO.

this was the person I thought would be the last boss of Suikoden II but I was wrong and was pretty shocked he wasn't.

What's more is, the final boss isn't even half as tough as he is.

Honestly, I think he is overrated.
Sure he actually achieved his goal, but what a shallow goal it was.

...and other the fact that he succeeded and had a funny laugh, I didn't like him at all.

He wasn't a particularly great villian imo, but definately better than most of the shitty attempts at villians out there. Haven't played half the games mentioned in this thread unfortunately, so I dunno how he really stacks up to what other people have said.

I like to remember Kefka in a retrospective kind of way. He might seem shallow now but in 1994 it was revolutionary to have a humanized villain who's goal was to become a supreme being rather than just destroy everything. FFVI upped the ante on a lot of levels of maturity and developing the antagonist is just one of them.
