    Bluetooth vs Wireless

I think I understand the basics.

Bluetooth is lower powered, shorter ranged, cheaper technology. An alternative to what most things used to be USB or other type of connections like audio and etc.

Wireless as in like... mice and keyboards type wireless. Consumes more power, usually has further ranges, but uses more expensive technology.

Actually as I write this I'm not so sure of anything anymore. Is the wireless technology for keyboards and mice the same technology as for things like wireless routers?

I kind of just want to know more about both. I have some specific questions though too, like, why does bluetooth have a second or so delay. Is this due to protocol or just signal type. Is there a way to reduce it? I'm not aware of any bluetooth devices using any sort of encryption, though I haven't actually checked, but would this be a factor. Why is wireless so much more... instant where bluetooth is not.

I had more questions but I seem to have forgotten.

Not to be rude or anything, but wiki/google could answer your questions a lot better than anyone on these boards could.

My knowledge of the two are rather basic too, however the main difference is that bluetooth set up more like a personal wireless network, using minimal power to set up a connection between two devices. Wireless internet is more transmitting and receiving through connected devices, it uses more power and requires more setup on the user's part. And yes, Bluetooth connections are encrypted (would you want someone to have the ability to listen in on your phone conversations?)

The best way I can describe it is that wireless networking replaces cat5s, bluetooth replaces USB cables. One is capable of transferring much more information than the other.

The bluetooth delay, are you referring to when you first turn the device on or something else?

What exactly is/are your question(s)? You're kind of all over the map there >_>

I've already done that but I kind of wanted to know more. And the sources are just lacking.

Although I appreciate the repeating of wikipedia it's not really... useful other than pointing out my ignoring encryption entirely. Should've been the big tip off when I read security.

That seems inaccurate or incomplete, we have USB mice yet we have wireless mice. Though we too have bluetooth mice.

Transfer delay. As in, you move the mouse, a second later it moves on screen. You watch a music video with bluetooth headsets it's obvious that the music isn't synced with the video (knowing that they should). You talk to someone on the phone you get that sort of delay that you know isn't normally there, think news broadcasters that talk across the nation via satellite, and how there's that delay and so they both end up talking at the same time.

    Yes, that's my problem exactly.

I can't say I've ever experienced that sort of delay, with either a mouse/input device or a headset, and I use both regularly. There's a momentary delay while it turns on the radio and makes the initial connection, but as long as I'm actively using it, it's realtime, in my experience.

That's strange, it's not a whole second mind you, but it's obvious enough to be to be apparent. And the satellite thing was a huge exaggeration to try to get the idea across. But yeah I notice that there's a lot of delay between several different devices I've used.
