    Preventing restart

Work has annoyed me for what I wish to be the last time. Our brilliant sys admins wont give the ability for anyone working at night to cancel windows update from automatically restarting the computer. So fuck whatever your doing, your going to restart.

Is there anyway from preventing windows from restarting because of this?

Hmm, we had it setup at our workplace where it will download updates automatically but it won't restart until you push the button to do so on the window which pops up (although this window won't disappear and it's 100% up, I've told users to just move it off the screen and forget about it).

I've not known for it to force restarts O_o

I can only assume your computer is tightly locked down? If not, try to disable automatic updates...

can't do that. (Disabling updates) its not locked down like super duper tight because our IT department isn't that big / smart, but certain things are....annoying. Like this! Everything else I can get around / doesn't bother me, but this has pissed me off to no end while doing actual work and all of a sudden Bam! restart and IT is to lazy to fix it for us.

So you can't use the control panel at all or what?

Try opening up a command prompt, type:

    net stop wuauserv

(stops Automatic Update service, can do net start wuauserv when you leave to start it back up)

If you can't do that (permissions-wise), then I'm not sure there's anything you can do.

Maybe ask the IT guys if they can just set the Automatic Update time to be something that works better for you.

Unplug network cable when network not needed then plug back in when work is done?

Very few jobs involving computers these days are able to be done without some kind of network connection (at least internal only) so I highly doubt this is a viable solution.

If you can't stop the windows update service or somehow gain access to the control panel/cmd prompt/registry, there's really not much you can do.
