Well I was bored this morning and decided to play with the /random system. So basically I did a couple of tests for fun just to see If I could roll the same number twice in a row, or simply roll a 999. I put together a couple of crappy macros consisting of lines with /wait X amount of time and /random. I don't know if anyone has ever really played with the random system before(probably some people who wanted some kind of gain) but I'm sure people have brought in mathematics and whatnot on trying to figure out how the numbers are produced. Unfortunately, I don't really care about all that stuff. I just wanted to see myself roll the same number twice in a row, or roll a 999 so I could feel like a badass. I'm sure we've all rolled a 999 at some point in our playing career(probably amidst spams of /random), but I wanted to do it with a simple macro aimed at specifically rolling that number. I got a little sidetracked with some things and later decided to go beat up my NPC, but I got a few /randoms in for my tests.
Config's sloppy results:
Failed attempt #1 for same numbers:

On the way to go beat up my NPC (Failed attempt #2 at same numbers):

After teaching my NPC about leaving the kitchen(jk jk, you know I <3 you Nanako), and having some breakfast:
999 attempt #1 = Fail.

So I pretty much felt like the /random system took a dump all over my face until a few minutes later when I tried again.

Conclusions:
Well, there really isn't much to conclude. I can't claim that I'm that legendary bastard who's ability to roll the same number twice in a row is on par with the badassery levels of bear wrestling lumberjacks. BUT, I am making small progress in the 999 department (which is pretty neat too, but honestly useless.) The random system isn't as random as it seems, but I think we all sort of knew that anyway. My guess is the numbers simply cycle through from 0-999. Also, I did not alter any numbers or spam until I got these numbers. I set up a pretty basic macro that was: /wait 1.8 /random, that I would hit when the in-game clock struck XX:X1. As of right now I haven't really tested much, but I'll probably play with it some more in the future for fun.
