Using trigger for Wired 360 controller on PC?

I just installed the drivers for my PC and FFXI Config is still not letting me map the triggers, and i don't really feel like using the bumpers for macros :\ anyone ever have this problem before?

how can i change it from the computer reading my triggers from axis' to buttons?

Follow the guide. There's a profile on the downloads page (the last one, I think) that has the triggers set up as digital buttons.

Basically, MS's drivers for 360 controllers "suck" because they want all the controllers to be mapped the same so they're compatible with Games for Windows titles. XBCD360 is a set of third-party drivers with a config panel that lets you remap the buttons and axis however you'd like. It works great, I use my 360 controller for emulators (it's awesome for SNES, PSX and MAME in particular) and used to use it occasionally for FFXI. You can also set up multiple profiles (for example, if some of your games need analog triggers) and switch between them using the guide button.

Bumping this instead of making a new thread. Is there any other way to turn the Xbox 360 triggers into digital buttons other than XBCD, or a program out there to map gamepad buttons to other gamepad buttons?

My wired 360 controller works fine with the standard MS drivers, but the XBCD drivers will just absolutely not work. By default windows won't recognize the driver as viable for my controller, and after I update xbcd.inf with the vendor/product ID my controller shows up with in USBview, I can 'update' to the XBCD driver, but it doesn't install correctly and the controller won't work at all.

Right now I'm just using xpadder to map ctrl/alt to the triggers, but this sucks since you get stuck with time lag from having to hold down ctrl/alt, as opposed to being instant when it's set to a gamepad button through the FFXI config.

It really sounds like you're trying to use the wrong drivers. Double check that you're using XBCD360 rather than plain XBCD, and that you're using the proper driver for Vista/XP 32/64. XBCD is kinda tricky to install, but Xbox gamepads are simple, if it's not working, 99% chance it's because you did something wrong.

I've tried the newer ones 2.5 and 2.6, as well as some way older versions. Windows does recognize the driver from the 2.5 version as "XBCD Xbox 360 Gamepad" when I try to update driver, without me messing with the inf, but says "there was a problem installing this hardware" on finish, and controller does not work at all.

if you're using vista, hit F8 during startup and disable driver signature reinforcement and try installing them
