My girlfriend plays City of Heroes, I played the trial to the cap of 14, and I totally agree, their buddy system is brilliant.

That was probably the coolest thing about COH well aside from character creation which I actually spent more time doing than playing the actual game. That and people "AH" stuff in that game for less than the vendors will buy it from you so you could pretty much be rich in like 30 minutes if you had any brain cells.

I'm sure that would get quite a few laughs.

For FFXI, I'd just say "OK, you got someone in past the 30 day starter limit?"

Here, have an rare/ex Empress Ring clone with 10 charges. Your buddy gets one too. (so they can have both in inventory). Woot, extra bonus exp!

They stay in 6 months? Here's a clone of the Anniversary Ring for each of you.

A year? BCNM token for each of you for an awesome special fight- limited to a party of six per fight, and with multiple level versions depending on where you use it. Six rare/ex tokens drop as part of the treasure for a win, letting you pick from some nice goodies depending on which fight you do and the level (and you'll know what items are gettable in advance).

Every six months thereafter, alternative between a A.Ring clone and a BCNM token gift. Win.

Nowadays, you get both in one package deal.

And I definantly agree that lv'ing w/ rl friends makes things slower... usually I'm the one holding my friends back because I don't get more than a few hrs & few days of the week to play, so this type of an incentive is nice. But I always have found it more enjoyable to play w/ friends, so it's worth it
The beauty is that outland reps will probably be relegated for getting achievements once WotLK comes out and most stuff by Level 75 will probably eclipse outland rep items.

This is really most helpful to people who wanna 2box though. Blizzard is kind of lowering itself another notch in terms of devaluing the gameplay experience, but that pretty much sums up their progression philosophy, and hey, who's gonna argue with the ridiculous amount of money they're going to rake in from this.

The exp gain bonus stops at 60, or after 90 days, whichever occurs first.

So once you're actually legitimately in outland your exp gain won't severely outpace your faction reputation gain.

And of course who's to say they won't boost outland rep gain like they did with Argent Dawn/Cenarion Circle/Timbermaw?

It's likely they will do this when WotLK comes out and they reduce the XP caps for levels 61-70.

It's not for need of subscribers, it's no coincidence this was announced the same day as the release date announcement for Warhammer.

It's a coincidence imo... the release date was leaked a week ago, but finally made official by Mythic today. And even if WAR is a huge success (w/I'm thinking it will) Blizz has nothing to worry about regarding WoW in the short term. WAR's release would hurt the other mmo's if anything, not like 1-2 mill less WoW sub's would hurt Blizz's 3 year old game much.

I don't think this release has anything to do with Warhammer. They've generated a lot of bad press lately with the slashing of launch content, which is going to hurt them enough. Given that the reduced content is almost a sure-fire sign of a game that is being forced out the door by Mythic's evil EA overlords (I, for one, do NOT welcome them), I really get the feeling that Warhammer will quickly become an Age of Conan or Shadowbane...dominant game (WoW/EQ respectively) killer, dominant game killer, dominant game killer...launch...MMO historical footnote.

Unless Mythic can get that content out in the first...~3 months, and have a very successful launch without it, I think Warhammer's already going down the slippery slope.

Warhammer looks and sounds boring. I don't see what the hype over this game is.
