It's very slow, then concludes quickly. At the end you leave asking yourself what the point of the film even was.

But! Still oddly entertaining, and worth seeing just for the acting. Woody Harrelsons performance is the best I've ever seen from him, it was amazing.

Yup, I hate to overhype things but it really was the best performance I've seen from him, and I've seen the majority of his movies.

I can think of at least four different remakes of Seven Samurai off the top of my head.

47 Ronin isn't a first modern re-imagining obviously, but unlike Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, which never appeared on paper prior to being a movie, Ronin was told and retold before and reverberates with traditional Japanese minds more.

The story of 47 Ronin didn't appear from playwrights until 40 or 50 years after the supposed events occurred due to censorship laws, so it's pretty safe to say the majority of it is fabricated to begin with.
