The movie was directed in a way to let the actors and dialogue shine, lots of long takes, wide shots, acting in the raw, and I thought the dialogue wasn't nearly as natural as needed to pull it off. Bruce Dern was fine as the grandpa but I was disappointed with the dialogue / acting of just about everyone else. Lines were too on the nose and everything was just... up front. It's such an understated movie that it's not like there are big comedy setpieces to distract you from its shortfalls.
I was expecting better from Alexander Payne.
thx i might see it this weekend with her.
Saw american hustle and inside llewyn davis last night, first more enjoyable than the second given that i knew nothing of the coen brothers personal lives or anything about the folk music scene in the 60's.
Watched Devil's Pass on Netflix the other day. Not terrible considering how low budget it was.
lol
Btw Bill it's Alison's b day tommorow.
You should watch the documentary on the film as well called The Best Worst Movie. It's up on Netflix as well.
Filmed (and directed i think) by the kid in the movie and it follows the father of the film as they go to all these Troll 2 showings around the country and then the director and the cast all meet up (minus the mother of the film, though she does appear)
Inside Llewyn Davis was full of sad and g chords
Wolf of Wall Street: A+ definitely go see.
True it was almost 3 hours. Actually Scorsese's cut is supposedly 4, which is insane. The humor is so dark though, I loved it. It was a fast 3 hours and I enjoyed it all. Was just fun to see how over the top it could get.
Watched Rush, was meh, nothing great nothing bad. Got around to watching Don Jon finally, don't know what all the craze was about, all I could think the whole movie was about how I wanted to punch him and his annoying voice in the head, kind of ruined the whole movie for me. Out of The Furnace was a good flick, just felt like it kind of dragged, thought it would have been a bit better
Watched 42 the other night. Very good movie on Jackie Robinson. Wife couldn't even tell it was Harrison Ford in the movie.
Good to hear. I love baseball and haven't watched a good baseball flick in awhile.
Wolf of Wallstreet. Just saw a preview for it the other night and was immediately interested. Without hesitation I'll say since Basketball Diaries I'm a Leo fan. Excited to check this one out.
Anyone watch Grudge Match? Previews look funny as hell.
Judging by how bad it did in theaters last week I don't think anyone saw it. It got shit on hard by reviews.
The Wolf on Wallstreet
Watched the secret life of Walter Smitty. Ben still goes dramatic and it isn't bad. Some funny scenes, with great cinematography. Heart warmer moving and Kirstin Wiig is hot.
