The Hunt - pretty good drama, dont expect more.
Frank - Had great reviews on rotten tomatoes but its very avant-garde. Few laughs, get uncomfortably serious.

That was the flaw I had read about before watching it myself. Outside of Don and Norman I didn't either, but didn't feel like it was necessary. Most war movies lack character development if the focus on a squad or platoon. Few do it as well as SPR

you posted after I edited, so most war movies lack character development if the focus on a squad or platoon.For example, Black Hawk Down has very little development even in Josh Hartnetts character, but is still enjoyable. Few do it as well as SPR.

Character development is probably the wrong term. I just didn't feel any resonance with the characters. Movies like SPR, Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, I cared enough that I didn't want to see the characters die.

Maybe it's just the way David Ayer writes. Fury seemed a lot like Training Day, Street Kings and End of Watch(all 3 movies I liked) in the way the characters are written; in that you get dropped into a "day in the life of" type film, where you don't get to see how they got to that point but have to piece it together through some of the dialogue or scenery. Seeing Brad Pitt's scarred back kind of tells the viewer of the hell he'd been through, as well as the post-D-Day story. Norman being the scared kid only 8 weeks into the Army, thinking he would be a clerk only to find out he is going to be the outsider newbie in a tank squadron where life expectancy is pretty poor. And I'm not one to watch a movie and hope the character doesn't die, because sometimes the story means more when they don't survive.

Up until now i've never been in the position after seeing a movie where i remembered to/felt sort of compelled to come here and post about it. The movie is called I origins. While I can't say that it's one of my FAVORITE movies of all time,I really enjoyed it and I do believe that it is worth consideration. Here is a summary:

Dr. Ian Gray (Michael Pitt), a molecular biologist studying the evolution of the eye. He finds his work permeating his life after a brief encounter with an exotic young woman (Astrid Bergès-Frisbey) who slips away from him. As his research continues years later with his lab partner Karen (Brit Marling), they make a stunning scientific discovery that has far reaching implications and complicates both his scientific and spiritual beliefs. Traveling half way around the world, he risks everything he has ever known to validate his theory

i seriously recommend this movie. the story is just so unique, fascinating, and if you're able to let yourself suspend belief by the time shit gets real (like any movie, really) youll find yourself more than satisfied with the time youve spent on the movie.

I like Training Day a lot, haven't seen the other two. I've liked performances by all of the main tank actors in the past, they just didn't collectively do anything for me. The main issue was that I didn't like the Norman character or that performance. Pitt was fine, but I didn't feel like he had much to play off of from the other actors. The whole thing felt shallow.
