I hate USC mostly because of the absolute failure of the BCS and how they somehow manage to take advantage of it, and because of shit like the 2003-04 season. Media darlings, as someone put it. End the season with 4 or 5 undefeated teams, but who goes to the Rose Bowl? OSU and USC, who at that point were still cleaning the slobber off of their cocks from all the media cocksucking. It's not that they didn't deserve a shot at the title, it's that they weren't heads and shoulders above the other undefeated teams.
Auburn was denied a Rose Bowl bid after their 11-0 season on the basis that they didn't run the scores up high enough, which is absolute bullshit. The only reason you do that is to impress the media, which USC does remarkably well. SEC philosophy is to get ahead with your first stringers, and then put the second string boys in to get them some play time. Basically sacrificing hueg scores for building depth, but it doesn't just scream at the public like that USC-OSU score today.
Since were sharing:
I do not like USC for when Texas had just stopped "the best college football team ever" Leinhart had the nerve, audacity, and arrogance to publicly state in post game interviews that "we're still the better team, and we deserved to win this game" or something very similar along those lines.
Did ASU and UNLV just go into overtime, or am i seeing things? Maybe ASU looked ahead a bit too.
Edit: And Arizona State just lost at home in OT to UNLV. UGA breathes a collective sigh.
USC got shafted out of the title game in 2003, when they finished the season ranked #1 in both polls, but got left out of the national title game. I would consider that the single biggest travesty in the history of the BCS.
They got left out because of their lack of a preseason ranking, which kept them below USC & Oklahoma. After the result of the NCG game, it's also pretty clear that in the 2004 season the NCG team that didn't belong was Oklahoma, not USC.Originally Posted by Melchiah
Do you really believe the SEC is the only conference that pulls their starters and they don't run up the score? Seriously? LSU won four games last year by more than 40 points. That's everyone's philosophy, and USC did pull their starters in the fourth quarter.Originally Posted by Melchiah
I'm not saying the system doesn't suck and have some major flaws, and I don't blame you for hating USC, but your arguments are showing a pretty selective memory.
EDIT: This Fresno State-Wisconsin game is turning out to be pretty damn good.
Yeah, LSU ran their scores up last season. Is it any surprise they were given a NCG bid? Huge scores get more attention than good football games. The system is horked, and the team with the best publicist gets the NCG bids.
This is probably just hardline zeal, but I think it's harder to win in the SEC than outside of it. As I review the SEC East and West schedules, I notice a distinct lack of Trojan helmets anywhere on the sheet. Again, no surprise. Why play a team like LSU or UGA when you can jackhammer cupcake teams with huge scores and highlight reels?
As for their non-conference play, Notre Dame hasn't been anything in years, Hawaii played a bowl game with UAB which they won 40-59, and Arkansas is hardly the SEC team I'd be bragging about beating.
In summary, USC is a good program, but I feel they are way overblown by the sportswriters and media.
Agreed. The SEC has more depth than any other conference in the nation. There's very few easy games in the SEC, no matter what the schedule within the conference.
Because LSU and Georgia won't schedule USC, not the other way around. USC only has two non-pre scheduled games a year these days (9 Pac-10 + Notre Dame); their variable games this year are @ Virginia and at home against Ohio State. They can't play SEC teams every year.Originally Posted by Melchiah
Reviewing USC's schedule since 2002, they've played exactly one complete patsy (2007, Idaho). LSU's non-conference opponents this season are Troy, North Texas, Appalachin State, and Tulane -- if you give Tulane credit for not being a complete patsy, that's still two more patsies this season than USC has played in seven seasons. Do you really think the USC is the one who is not willing to play LSU or Georgia, when Georgia hasn't left the southeast US for a regular season game since the 60's? USC has shown a willingness to play anyone, anywhere, and return home-and-home dates to smaller-yet-still-decent schools like BYU and Hawaii, when they could buy homes games from weaker schools like 90% of other major conferences consistently do. Is LSU is going to play @ Troy, North Texas, or App State any time soon?
1) Their non-conference schedule is tougher than any other BCS team in the country since 2002. If you can find another BCS conference school who has a better non-conference schedule since 2002, I will paypal you $10.Originally Posted by Melchiah
2) Notre Dame, Arkansas and Hawaii may not be world beaters, but they're not Troy, North Texas, Appalachin State or Tulane. And USC returns home dates to most of their non-conference foes.
3) If teams won't schedule you, you can't play them.
Fair enough.Originally Posted by Melchiah
My summary: You can bash USC for a lot of things (I prefer making jokes about Reggie Bush's parents house, myself) but criticizing their scheduling practices is not one of them.
They (USC) don't play as many so there's less weak teams, but on the tough end the argument could be made for Colorado most years.
edit: lol@ announcers in OU game talking about LSU
a: "How about that LSU game, they installed that spread offense yada yada, 3-2."
b: "I guess it's not fully installed yet."
biggest sleeper team of this season will be led by this god of running backs

Just got home (found a nice sweet girl in Fresno to spend the night with).
What a nervewrecking game. What shitty refs, seriously.
Fuck yeah Wisconsin. #8 in the AP now. (5 of the top 10 are SEC)
Also, this is really hideous: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...d?&w=3&c=pac10
Oregon takes two OTs to beat a mediocre Purdue team. Oregon State beats a mediocre Hawaii team. USC crushes Ohio State.
And everyone else in the Pac-10 loses, including 5 losses to mid-major teams, 4 of which were unranked. Ouch.
Snow White and the 9 dwarves?
I know UCLA is included in the loss to mid-major teams, they should get a special mention or getting curbstomped.

Hooray for dropping another spot for the second straight week.... when we won.
I know we squeeked out a win but wasn't USC supposed to have a great defense? Any game against Steve Spurrier is going to be difficult. When he hates a team he seems to coach even better.
But I'm done trying to rationalize the actions of the media vs. UGA. If we win the SEC championship, we go to the BCS Title game. If we don't win it, we don't . The media can't stop that so it's all in our hands.
Gotta remember though. It's only September 14th. We aren't even into the meat of our schedules. If UGA, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, or what not run the table, they'll get more looks in my opinion than some schools.
One team I'm extremely impressed with (even though their defense is non-existent almost, and no Oklahoma on the schedule) is Mizzou. Their offense looked amazing. Chase Daniel for Heisman right now.
Calling it (this is going to be wrong) Oklahoma, USC, and Wisconsin run the table. National Championship is OK vs. USC, USC stomps them. Wisconsin fucked yet again by the system. 5 teams in the SEC go 11-1, none go to the championship, and 3 are left out of the BCS because of the 2-team per conference rule. A 4 loss team from the Big East gets destroyed by SEC#2. Notre Dame gets 6 wins and ends up in a BCS bowl somehow, loses by 137.
Am I missing anything?
So I did.
Sparty remains my dark horse for the Big 10 title, even moreso now that OSU is nothing. Go Sparty!
UGA Rant Time:
-UGA Starts the season #1.-
Press: Sorry dawgs, you played a weaker opponent and USC destroyed a BCS team. Down you go.
UGA: Meh, alright. Happy to have the target gone.
-Week 2-
UGA destroys current MAC champion, Ohio State squeaks by the mighty Ohio, USC bye week.
Press: Sorry UGA, were gonna make you loose ground as a definitive #2 to Oklahoma because they hit 50 points first in their blowout of nobody.
UGA: Meh, alright. At least we showed we can play your little BCS cupcake blowout game, even though LeFevour is as good as Tebow. Yay #2.
-Week 3-
UGA: Damn, our first SEC game. Our first road game. A rivalry game that has been decided by 6-7 points or less so many times in the past decade. This one should be damn close, a usual SEC defensive white knuckle ride.
Oklahoma: LOL Washington is 0-3 now. Damn, we keep knocking down these heavy Div-1A hitters. Go Us!
Mizzou: We scored more than you did against noone Oklahoma, sux2bu.
Bradford: ;_;
USC: THE Southern Cal.
Ohio State: QQ'ed.
Press: Sorry UGA, we know you won on the road, at an SEC school, in a defensive battle, and are now 3-0. But we didnt see you notch 69 points against a "quality" team like Mizzou or Oklahoma can. Bye.
UGA: the fuck?
Damned if you do, damned cause we dont (run up the score). I'm sick of this press bullshit. No doubt USC is #1...but for UGA to win THREE TIMES and drop TWICE because oklahoma and mizzou can win 69-whatever is crap. Florida didnt even play and stayed where they were. As far as im concerned, UGA remains #2. We've started our conference schedule, wheres yours Oklahoma and Mizzou? Wheres yours USC?
This is only going to make UGA strive HARDER to go 13-0. And quite frankly knowing Richt, this team is capable of that as long as theyre underrespected and that makes them even more dangerous. I hope these voters know what theyre doing, but UGA always performs when were down and tends to sleepwalk when were favored. We'll see you in Miami in Janurary, UGA's only question is which one of you other pretenders is gonna implode the least between now and the Big 12 title game and a USC upset in at home.
Edit: The ONLY, and this is even a MINOR ONLY, thing that is keeping me from upgrading to FURY over RAGE is that Knowshon remains in the Heisman race at a solid #3. At least the press isnt bullshitting about that one.
Rofl, arch. I could see that happening!
I do think it's bullshit how Oklahoma moved up even though they beat the dogshit out of a listless Washington team. I think they are giving Washington too much credit for only losing to BYU by 1, and BYU beat UCLA by 59. D: Ah well.
