Well, I know I'm probably the only Illini fan around here but I'm moderately pleased with last nights game. I didn't expect a win- Missou is very good and they have loads of experience. But what I do like:
- Juice was passing wonderfully, putting up 450 or so yards and 5 tds. We ran so well last year because we HAD to. The passing game wasn't great. Good to see the huge improvement on what should be a pretty solid Missou defense.
- mounting a bit of a comeback to keep it close was nice too. Good to see a team not roll over because they gave up 3TDs before going into halftime.
- keeping it competitive! I know, it's not a great goal but after so many years of believing that you'll just get creamed by any team in the top 25...hell top 50 even...it's nice to see your team go into a game with a top 10 team, put up points, move the ball, and feel like if things went a little differently you have a shot at a win.
Every Illini fan that knows their ass from a hole in the ground knows that the rose bowl last year was a fluke- owing to OSU being in the title game, rules against multiple teams from a single conference being in the BCS and some other oddities. Those same fans also know that we're not looking for BCS every year. We're looking for 6+ wins every year. We'll get them this year for sure. Nice to see the program finally playing well.
Dick Rod losing his first game made my day.
/em high fives West Virginia, Penn State, and Purdue fans that already hate him for what he's done since he went to Michigan.
Yanno, Wisconsin didn't really look that great imo. That game was fairly tight for a while. PJ Hill sure ran like crazy though.
Surprised with Illinois' performance honestly, Nystul. Then again.. Mizzou really needs to work on their pass defense. There were like.. a ton of blown coverages that game. There was a lot of cases where Defenses were really lax during games. I guess it's because it was 2nd/3rd string guys by the end of the game.
Sup everyone, I'm only back on here for the college football season rofl. I'll be participating in the bowl pick em in december, but I'll be around. Go Trojans!! I got tickets to the OSU v USC game in 2 weeks. woot, FIGHT ON!!
WV losing to the purple butt pirates(story behind that name, PM me and I'll tell you) at ECU tripped me out.
I had that as my 9 pointer but still managed third thus far.
We (Cal) had a very slopppppppy win against MSU. Best part of the game was when they put Longshore back in (Tedford said he'd play at some time before the game even though he lost his starting spot because of how he tanked us last year), he threw a 50 yard pass to MSU's 5 yard line, and everybody started going, "Is he back?" I simply said, "Wait, he hasn't tried to throw it into the endzone yet." Interception in the endzone next play and then on the first play of our next drive he threw another one which was returned for a TD. Only reason the first one wasn't returned was because Best can run a 10 second sprint and chased the guy down from a 30 yard deficit. Longshore was benched immediately after the second interception.
Let's see:
- Riley is looking way strong.
- Defense had a pretty good game despite the score (21 of those points were because of turnovers and a roughing the kicker call). What's more, we had two legitimate interceptions that were 1) not given to us and 2) overturned and both of those drives were TD's.
-Jahvid Best is fast as fucking hell.
Keep Longshore on the sideline, please! God, he was so awful in such a small amount of time. Reminded me of Brandon Cox of Auburn. He had a god awful game against Georgia 2 years ago. Threw something like three or four picks, two of which on the first two drives.
Speaking of Auburn, I hated our QB play. Chris Todd and Kodie Burns combined for maybe 50 yards passing. The plus side is it was the first game with the whole Spread offense in there, so I'm hoping for some improvement. If not, then we're just as overrated as I think Clemson and the whole ACC was.
As far as the ACC goes... is anyone else actually surprised at how BAD they were? I mean.. they are most definitely the weakest "Power" conference this year, and I'd be willing to bet some of the Mid-Majors are actually better as well. NC State, Virginia (Albeit against USC), Clemson, Maryland only winning by 7 over Delaware, VT... man, so bad.
Having VA Tech lose to ECU and Alabama beating Clemson really screwed me over for the points on pickem... I love seeing Michigan lose anytime though, so that was a plus to an overall meh sort of week imo. I liked how Illinois played as well, but I agree, their performance last year was a fluke.

This Tennessee-UCLA game is turning about to be a lot closer than I expected.
Oh shit, I didn't expect Slick Rick to jump start this UCLA team so fast. I wonder how many walking violations are on the field?
Touchdown UCLA! wow, intense game...
Wow. Awesome game.
I'm glad I stayed up for this.
they gonna tie it up...
oh snap, overtime maybe?
