Oklahoma the past 5 years is a fucking joke, to even compare them to USC who wins EVERY SINGLE BIG GAME THEY ARE IN is laughable. USC has lost to two ranked opponents in 5 years and won 4 of their last 5 january games. OKlahoma has lost to 9 ranked opponents and lost 4 of their last 5 january games. Just end it now, you have nothing to stand on here.

So, CU awards our kicker a scholarship for the game winner vs WVU, and now he's missed 3 vs Texas. I don't wanna get down on the team because they're not looking TOO bad outside of a couple of instances, but it's unfortunate when it could be a much closer game.

Uh.. despite how Vandy is playing right now, I don't think they would match up against Alabama this year if they played em. Hell, AU can't throw the ball for dick. They're one-dimensional right now as proven by Vandy's last ranked defense in the SEC. I dunno why they aren't handing the ball to Ben Tate or Brad Lester right now. Heck, get Mario Fannin in the game more too. It's getting kinda ridiculous.

Either way, I'm sure Saban will try to sure things up. If UGA didn't have the load of penalties they had last week, they could have held that closer and been in it more in the 2nd half. If Bama didn't make the countless mistakes, they might have done better as well. It's just when they'd move, penalties would interrupt them or let a drive by Kentucky continue on, etc.

Ah well. Also, agreed on Bob Stoops. He's a great coach in the regular season, but for some reason, once he gets into a BCS Bowl Game... it's like his brain shuts down. That or his athletes don't care.

I'm sorry, but if Tyche's stats above are correct, a 59% winning percentage against ranked teams tells me he doesn't deserve the nickname at all. Especially since, more often than not, he has more talent on his team compared to the other team.

The thing you fail to realize is that most of those losses to "ranked" teams are losing to teams ranked 23'rd or whatever instead of the 28ish crap the other big schools tend to lose to. (edit: by crap I'm refferring to losing to a 26 being a completely different stat than losing to a 25)


Like I said, it's not losing in the big games against top teams that's killed him (I don't care what people want to say, 1/3 in national championships ain't freakin bad), it's the losses to teams they shouldn't lose to in games that are overlooked or whatever.


Here, I'll go over what I see as the actual "big" games since 02.

02- 9Texas win, 14Co win, Co again win, 7Wazu win. Fluke losses to unranked OSU and A&M teams.

03- 5Texas win, 10KSU drubbing, 21-14 loss in nc game where neither team belonged and both looked like shit.

04- 5Texas win, Crushed by usc in championship

05- There's no big games in a year you start out 2-3 at OU

06- 18Oregon loss, 7Texas loss, 5Boise State in overtime game they deserved to win, wasn't really even a particularly big game except as a symbol that they were still a top notch team

07- 1Mizzou, win. Debatable rather WV was a big game, they clearly didn't give a shit.


Flat out getting to those situations requires winning a lot bigger games than most coaches will ever be a part of.

To say he hasn't been successful in big games when he's either won the big 12 or finished 2nd to Texas in off years *every single year* since he's been there is just foolish.

I'm being generous in disregarding the 20ish ranked teams both ways, but if you want to tell yourself that "beat texas and lost all other big games" is a good way to describe a 12-1 season with 2 road wins against ranked teams, well, there's really not much point to this discussion.

That's where you're wrong, I'm trying to argue fairly, and not resort to twisting things around, and show that in the biggest of the big games, he's won about half of them, which is, in reality, pretty damn good, when your biggest games are consistently top 5 teams facing off with NC's on the line.


I could argue about how if you take out the years when AD got hurt and the team suffered from terrible quarterbacking the ratio changes to 11-4 since 02 against ranked opponents, or about how he got the nickname in the first place, but I don't feel that's even necessary.


Winning about half your championship contender vs championship contender games is damn good, especially in college.
