God forbid someone include the # 15 team as one of 4+ that could be argued for as #10. That would be senseless.

Especially with the comment "if they win next week" @ a 6-2 Georgia Tech team.

Man, seriously, wtf was I thinking!?

I'm sorry. If the Big Ten gets some depth (doesn't necessarily have to be like the Big 12 with 4 teams in the top 10) and schedules a conference championship game, then I'll give them a fair consideration for the NC. Penn State beat Ohio State.. whoopty fuckin doo.. meanwhile, Big 12 South teams are playing at least 3 games against top-10 opponents, 4 in Texas' case. If Penn State gets in the BCS championship game, they will get fucking stomped (by Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas, or Tech). Then the growing number of college football fans tired of watching the Big 10 get sodomized by other BCS conferences will have been fucked out of a could-have-been-a-good-game National Championship.. and that will leave this Alabama/Florida/Georgia vs. Texas/Mizzou/Tech shit unsettled.
The best teams show up every week and that's that. You don't take a week off and still deserve a shot at a national championship just because you play in a "better" major conference. Until there actually is a college football playoff, the entire season is the playoffs.

And the Big 10 can't get a conference chapionship game as it is now because they're a team short. And aside from Notre Dame (who's declined the Big 10's invite for years), no other team really fits.

Lastly, I'm not sure if you're familiar with Penn State and Joe Paterno's bowl record, but it is pretty impressive. Unlike OSU the past few years, PSU shows up for our bowl games. If Alabama/Florida/Georgia and Texas/Missou/Tech want to settle their shit they'll win out, if they don't then they don't deserve to be in the national chamionship.

EDIT: And ya know what...about your whoopty fuckin do beating Ohio State. Who has Bama beat aside from Georgia? Take away that like you take away Ohio State, and couple that with their unimpressive wins the past 3 weeks and they don't look so hot. Florida's only quality win is vs. a mediocre LSU team. Oh and they lost to lolmississippi at home. Georgia was embarassed by Bama at home at night, and their best win is vs. a mediocre LSU team. Tech's best win is vs. a shitty Kansas team. And you mention Missou as a viable NC contender with two losses? And their best win is over Illinois. The only team thats you could make a claim that would "fucking stomp" Penn State based on SoS is Texas, and I'd debate that because PSU plays defense unlike the opponents Texas has played.

#15? I thought they were 16? (Still behind LSU btw.)

Utah and Boise could be #10 for sure. Mizzou too I guess since they are still there. TCU and Ohio State still belong around that area. I just don't buy Florida State this year. The only convincing wins they have this year are against Division 2 teams (I refuse to call them FBS/FCS) and against Colorado.

BCS, FSU is 15 LSU is 19.

    In AP it's LSU 15 FSU 16.

LSU's "convincing" wins this year? Appalachian State and North Texas.

Did I say "FSU is number 10?"

No, I listed FSU as a team that could be argued for number 10 if they can go beat Georgia Tech next week.

Sorry, as much as you wish for it, it's really not a statement that can be deemed "wrong."

Georgia Tech lost to a Virginia. Virginia is a surging team, yes. Sure they beat UNC, but I'm not sure it'd be a win worth of bouncing them in BCS Bowl contention.

BTW, App State could blow out the teams LSU has beat convincingly. That is... if we're playing that card.

Oklahoma State couldn't hold the jock strap of Oklahoma/Florida/Penn State/USC. Yeah, they hung with Texas after TExas had played 2 strait weeks of top 10 teams. Teams do get hangovers, getting through 3 top ten teams is amazing. When they put up 56 on someone outside of Troy, Houston, Washington State, or whatever other division 3 team you want to throw in there, I'll be impressed.

edit: Mizzou was 11, not top 10. Sorry.

Remember when Mizzou was #3? Oh, that's right, that was before OSU beat them. Good thing OSU's defense was able to keep Mizzou under 30, unlike anybody else they've played this year, including Texas.

There's no point to responding to you about Oklahoma State beyond repeating Mack Brown again, it's easy to talk shit when you don't watch them play, then you can be stupid.

@aki- Georgia Tech has beaten a bunch of teams that were "supposed" to be good, they seem to be a good measuring stick for if a team is legit or not.

Mack Brown is a god damned D-1 coach of a major school. he can't some out and say "they are terrible, we'll crush them..." Have you ever heard a coach say that? Ever? And Ok state didn't even play well against mizzou. they couldn't move the ball on 3rd down and they turned it over a few times. They played much better against a worn down Texas. I really don't think Mizzou is that great either. Great QB, I love chase, but they aren't that damn impressive.

Seriously Plow does the Big 12 pay you for verbally blowing them so much? I honestly don't even know what team you like, it seems like you are in love with every one in the Big 12. The only time I root for other Big 10 teams is during the bowl season.

I'm just reveling the fact that I can talk a bunch of stupid shit about how great the big 12 is compared to the SEC, just like they always have at every opportunity in the past when the tables are turned.

That, and watching them run around and make 50 billion different unrelated, pretty much completely senseless arguments every time I do it is hilarious.

I sure do remember when Mizzou was an UNDESERVED #3, and the way they lost in their two losses to better teams proved just that. They scored 31 on Texas. So..? Texas was also up 35. I think Texas let up, though they should not have.

Tell me who GT beat that was supposedly good. Quick, do it. If you name ACC teams, I'll laugh in your face. The ACC is too mediocre to be put in the good team category. GT is ahead of schedule this year though with that Option they are running. I've been really surprised. VT, BC, Maryland (lol), Clemson definitely... all really down years. VT was on their damn 3rd QB in the FSU game before it got out of hand.

Also, my bad. Got LSU/FSU abbreviations confused, rofl. I meant App State could torch the teams Florida State blew out at the beginning of the year, lol. Not that it matters. Just sayin'. Michigan did lose to App. State last year and went on to beat Florida, so.. they weren't coming in as a bad team. D:

I said "supposed" to be good as in, Georgia Tech has been a big part of proving teams people thought would be contenders were not.

Clemson, VaTech, Boston College, and Virginia were all supposed to be pretty good, and Virginia actually has gotten pretty good recently.

Anyway, point being if FSU wins next week, they're 7-1 with road wins at Miami and Georgia Tech, and their only loss being to a Wake Forest team that can't decide if it's a top notch team or a turbl. If that's not grounds for an argument to be made that they can be considered along with some 2 loss teams with no better wins and some mid-majors, I don't know what you're expecting.

And lol @ Mizzou's #3 ranking being undeserved, a team that was 12-2 last year and finished top 10, lost virtually nobody, won a tough game the first of the year, and dominated everybody since then totally didn't deserve to be #3, not at all.

Won a tough game.. against Illinois. Yeah, how good does that win look now? (Losses to Minnessota and a struggling Wisconsin.) Sort of the same way with Bama's win against Clemson looking impressive at first, then not so much. Not comparing Illinois to Clemson though as I think Illinois probably beats them, but still. Yeah, Mizzou dominated the likes of Nevada, Southeast Missouri State (seriously), Nebraska... beat Buffalo by 21. Wait.. what? Anyway. =P As soon as they started playing the tougher teams in conference, their true side came out, and Chase Daniel struggled. Okay.. he didn't struggle in terms of yards, but 1/3 TD/INT against OSU, and the 2/1 performance against Texas late in the game isn't the Chase Daniel we were used to early on. Granted 75% Pass Completion is hot, and the mediocre QBs outside of Tebow/Stafford would kill for that in two games like those, but still. I think people were just drinking too much of the Mizzou koolaid and they weren't deserving of #3. They are a better #10 than FSU though =P

Man, this is one of the reasons I'm so glad I'm a fan of ND. Don't have to deal with this which conference is better bullshit. We either suck or are good all on our own and don't have to worry about our conference looking better than another.

Here is the long of the short of it: SEC is the top dog right now until someone knocks them off during the bowl season. They dominated bowl play last year, say whatever you want about who they played, but you won't sell me that they had an "easier" bowl schedule. The fact is they still won the games they got and no other conference can say they had the same success. The Big XII will get their shot to prove dominance in this year's bowl season.

The SEC doesn't look as strong as last year, although considering just how crazy competitive that conference was last season, is that really saying much? The Big XII is having teams start to stand out a bit more and look similar to the SEC last season, having multiple teams stand out and everyone wanting anxiously for them to play each other. Penn State looks to be by far the best out of the Big Ten and USC is the only team of worth in the PAC 10. ACC is meh at best, and lolBig Least.

And there you go, that is ALL you can say at this point. Most major BCS teams have non-conference schedules that are just jokes. More often than not the only quality match ups that those teams get are within their own conferences. So far the only real quality non-conference game that we've had is USC vs Ohio State (and that game has lost a bit of luster) and that's pretty much it. Should I start saying the PAC 10 is clearly the most dominate conference because of that? Hell no.

Earlier it was said that SEC teams are built to only beat SEC teams. Well -- no shit?

When you get a major BCS Bowl birth and your school gets a big ass paycheck for getting there, you damn well better be built to beat everyone in your conference for that bowl birth. The majority of your games are also against your own conference, so you won't be seeing any national titles if you can't even get through them. Hell, even for ND we do the same to a point, except for us our "conference" games are our steady rivalry games (Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, and USC -- BC is back in the mix now) and I suppose you can toss the traditional Navy game in there (consider that the bottom feeder of our "conference" schedule), but again, the main goal is to get through them first or we go nowhere.

Inter-conference banter and debate is fine and good. Thinking one conference is clearly better than the other at this point is beyond laughable.

Actually... I've already agreed that the Big 12 is the better conference of the two this year since it's been said (and I agree) that it's average by it's standards at best right now. I was just pointing out that I thought Mizzou was an overrated #3. I agree with how you can't judge conferences at this point of the season without them literally playing each other, but the banter/arguments are fun anyways!

Maybe I'm letting Plow piss me off too much.

I might be reading too much into some of the arguments, but it almost seems as if some of the arguments flying around here seem to be similar to: X conference is clearly better than Y because of Z. That drives me nuts, but then again like I said, being allied with ND tends to keep me away from such arguments or really caring all too much lol.

I mentioned Missouri because they could still end up Big 12 champs; the Big 12 North is looking pretty sad compared to the South, but we know that all a team needs is a chance to beat the superior South team in the championship. (K-State in 2003) Winning the Big 12 North should be no problem for Missouri. ..And although Missouri surely won't make the National Championship with their 2 losses, if they did in fact end up the Big 12 Champion, they would find themselves in a prime BCS bowl game, potentially against an SEC team. Yes, they could get the ACC champ or Big East champ, but let's hope not. I simply want Big 12/SEC matchups because I want to see the top (Big 12) offenses vs. the top (SEC) defenses. Also, it should be entertaining when the mediocre (okay, not so much for Florida) offenses are on the field against the bad defenses.

I'd also like to see the Plow-related posts in this thread when/if the SEC teams beat the Big 12 teams. '-'; The best way to resolve the conference war that we all love is to have the teams play each other in bowl games. Unfortunately, we'll be lucky to get two bowl games that are SEC vs. Big 12.

SEC was 7-2, Big 12 was 5-3, Mountain West was 4-1

SEC vs Big 12 was 1-1

Yeap, clearly dominated bowl play by a huge margin.

Lol congrats on that head to head matchup. Your 6th placed Big 12 team beat up on a .500 unranked SEC team who had no fucking business in a january bowl. If you wanted to sound smart you could have went with probably the most important bowl stat...the big 12 was 3-1 in january. The SEC was 3-2. Noone gives 2 shits about december bowl games, including bama vs colorado (well, maybe someone does, but I think they are meaningless, anyone and their mom can get into a december bowl)
