I've thought throughout the season so far that OSU was like a completely different team than the rest of the conference. Like, everyone else seems to be all pass and run defense, but they seem like they've had overall defense and running the ball as higher priorities. I seriously think, of all the teams in the Big 12, they'd match up the best against teams in other conferences. Thus far they've held two of the top teams in the conference to less than 30, and even though I know it won't happen, I'd rather see them in the NC game

Oh, I think they deserve their #2 ranking remy, but if you were to ask my who I thought would win a game between Florida, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Penn State vs Alabama, I'd take all 5 of the aforementioned.

As for Texas Tech vs UGA, honestly, Richt's road record is sickening. Id take Tech on a neutral site, but UGA in Sanford and in Lubbock. Course it also depends on how ready Tech comes to play.

As for the blackout, don't take the effect it had in the Alabama game as the norm. It was used WAY too early in the season and was coming a mile away. Obviously we can't have the same effect as it was against Auburn last year, but there were better ways for the Seniors to have asked for it. And when you are a visiting team in Sanford at night and seeing all that black and all that noice, it is a huge factor.

I just said it was a horrible idea to use against Alabama, and that it was misused and utilized way too early in the season. No reason to come out and be a dick like that. It DID have an effect on Auburn and Hawaii, because it got our students (and surprisingly our Alumni) loud as shit and into the game for all 60 minutes, which is something UGA has a tough job doing when were winning.

The blackout in the Alabama game did keep our students loud for all 60 minutes even being down 31-0. That is something I have never seen in Sanford , ever. Of course its bullshit if you think strictly jersey color has an effect on the opposing team. It's what it brings to the student section and the rest of the stadium as a whole.

So what is wrong with the university doing something "kitchy" for a big home game? Of course the students are going to be into it regardless. It isnt an issue of getting the students excited about the game and to be loud specifically, it's about getting the whole stadium into it if that makes sense and into the WHOLE game.

Of course thinking a jersey is gonna give you the win, thats silly. But theres no reason to not use something like that as a change to get people hyped up just that much more, pushing them from an '8' to a '9' so to say.

I know there is nothing more intimidating than walking into Rupp Arena as a fan of Kentucky's biggest rival. The atmosphere there is beyond ridiculous. Somewhat biased I'm sure, but Freedom Hall is even worse than that, but I've never been there as a KY fan. I'm sure Duke is the same way with thousands of dukies jumping up and down for 2 hours strait. Different sport I know, but the atmosphere has a huge effect on players, fans, and coaching. I remember a UL vs Georgetown game. Georgetown was heavily favored and UL decided to have a whiteout. Even Pitino came out dawning an all white tuxedo. First half was messy, but UL did end up winning the game.

It was representative of the blackout discussion, it doesn't keep the crowd into the game when you start losing.

Eh. They're gimmicks, and the UGA Crowd was not loud for all 60 minutes. I watched the game. I think I saw more tears on that game than any other in a while. Not that I enjoyed it, because I could care less. I just wanted a good football game. It just sucked it took until the second half to get one. You guys shut up early on, and only started to get loud after you stormed back in the second half where the Lethargic Alabama showed up, lol. White Outs, Black Outs, Green Outs... all that doesn't mean squat when the team is a good road team, jumps on you fast, and takes the crowd out completely. Then it only means a ton of people showed up at the stadium in the same colored clothes. And why shouldn't you have used it against Alabama? UGA went in thinking they were the better team... they clearly weren't.

Also, you think UGA stomping on the field is what beat Florida? You as a UGA fan should know better than that, lol. Florida wasn't good last year. That's why they finished 9-4 and lost to Michigan at the end of the year. As far as the SEC goes, they had a putrid defense. It's a lot better and faster this year. By the way... I seriously doubt it worked on AU. There was a guy named..Knowshon Moreno? Yeah... I think he had something to do with it, and he's always fired up, lol.

Now those gimmicks in college basketball on the other hand I think work. Mainly because it's a lot smaller, upclose and personal with basketball, unlike football where fans can't literally be on the field. UNC/Duke/Kentucky (no matter how shitty they are) are always tough places to play.

While it is a gimmick that shouldn't phase the other team (I don't think anyone here is advocating that a team is thrown off by a color change), the "_____ Outs" do a lot to motivate people in the stands. While most of us that visit this site probably scream and cheer until they bleed/pass out, a large % of the near 100,000 fans don't cheer for the entire game. But for a few games that are hyped up with gimmicks you see a huge change in the "lazy fans" behavior. These "lazy fans" are standing and cheering with the "die hard" fans and as a result the stadium is more roudy and loud. So the gimmicks do have an effect on the fans.

And I partly believe that this extra fan participation and excitement has an effect on the home team in psychological terms such as energy and determination. When I played sports in high school there was definitely a different level of energy among the team when we played at home to a few hundred yelling fans. I can't imagine what its like to have 93,000 people yelling. Overall, I think gimmicks like this work in hyping up the fans and to some extent the home team. The away team though may be awed/shocked/wowed by the look of the stands and noise but any decent team can move past that and ignore it.

As for the UF/UGA game, anybody else think the Meyer/Tebow/and friends have something up their sleeves for the game? Meyer was quoted in his biography stating "It will forever be in the mind of Urban Meyer and in the mind of our football team. We'll handle it and it's going to be a big deal." I highly doubt UF won't respond with something whether it is a coordinated act with the band/fans or a team celebration of some kind (not in the endzone... They'll be creative). I look forward to everything that this weekend brings.

Also, Gamble from UGA has said "The seniors came up with something new- something we've never done before". Not sure what to take from it but my guess is an endzone dance or something. Oh well, only time will tell.

But I was there 2 rows up from the start of the student section. It stayed loud until the very VERY end. Maybe not the rest of the stadium, but for the first time in forever the UGA students (and a large majority of the sections immediately around us) stayed loud and in the game regardless.

I never said the endzone dance is what beat florida last year. Not once. What it did do, like relation to the -outs for student sections, is got the team fired up and believing that they could snap the massive losing record they had going into that game even though Florida was favored to win by 12 or something. As confidant as you are, staring into the face of a 13 of 15 or whatever streak as it had been was something massive to your thoughts. Of course Knowshon and improved play from Stafford set the pace, but that was the spark the team needed coming off a lethargic last second win at Vandy 2 weeks prior to get us riled up.

As for this year, I don't know. Meyer can be a schemer, but not always in a good way. I think the deal for UGA this year is we know we can beat them, and they're going to try to one up us from last year. That alone should be enough, but knowing (Evil) Richt, our seniors, and Stafford/Moreno, im sure they've started something amongst themselves that Richt has signed off on. If Florida focuses too much on "getting us back" for last year they might end up tripping up.

Something tells me we've seen a bit too much of Good Richt so far this year. Evil Richt normally comes out around this time, and thats when hell breaks loose.

The whole blackout thing is weird to me cuz if you go to a K-State home game when they're good, the entire place is purple, with a tiny sliver of something else for texas/nebraska etc games.

There's no way in hell you'd get K-Staters to go for anything but purple.

Georgia just gives the ball to Walker every single play, and he doesn't even look particularly good, till like the 5th play where he runs over and through pretty much the entire Florida defense for an amazing 70+ yard td lol.
