The deterrent I see is definitely official = more recognition = more idiots on the boards. Though I don't know if that would get noticed with how big the boards have gotten.

You guys already do listen to the beck and call of SE when something they don't like is posted so far as I've seen.

Mostly when legal action is threatened.

To be a premier site you'd have to have some kind of news function or whatever right? Or something other than just LS forums.

At the end of the day, you see the BG front page and it's their LS activities rather than an endgame community site. I could see it becoming a community site if things like content reviews, rocl talk, etc became official things you click from the front page, if the front page had updates / strategies and stuff for endgame, but without those it's hardly a premier site

Basically think of it this way : SE want to show off an amazing site that's dedicated to one aspect of FFXI. I think BG is halfway there (with an excellent forum) but to become full premier it needs something more , something that allows it to stand it's ground and say "If you want such and such you can go to BG".


Of course on the other hand, FFXIAH offers something unique to FFXI but something tells me it'll never be a premier site ;p

(side note : drg are amazing post patch and only well geared. Was in a drg burn with a spharaisukane monk and the drgs were keeping up np, true they were pierce weak colibri but still!).

Actually, to fully clarify on this, to become a premiere site, we are required to give a SE representative admin control to the forums. This along with the amount of censoring and cutting we'd have to do were the big contributors to our "hell no" response. Like Maxx said, all the NSFW threads and things of that nature would have to disappear and honestly, with admin control the SE representative could simply remove any post they don't like regardless of whether or not it's a legal issue (GM manuals/phone number).

Also Dezzimal, if we honestly jumped through every hoop SE threw in front of us, the boards would be a lot different. We have been contacted by whatever lawyer group they use regarding the GM manuals and phone numbers and frankly we don't feel like paying the fine for people's amusement. When it comes to things like badmouthing specific people on the various SE teams regarding FFXI, we simply claim freedom of speech. If we became a premiere site however, they would probably have us remove that as well.

Are you sure that was an actual SE rep requesting admin status from you? The premier sites do not give admin status to SE reps. Or at least, I know at Allakhazam we don't. All we did was color code their name when they view the forum.

You'd have to ask Sonomaa honestly. I just remember having the conversation with Sonomaa and we were doing a pros and cons list and that was one of the cons. >_>
