Here's a radical idea. Become a premier site. Just simply move all the "Objectional" stuff to another forum; create a forum specifically for it, to talk about things any way you like. This way, you can still say whatever you want, and you get premier status. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
There are at least 3 things wrong with that idea.
1: The draw of BG is the ability to say whatever you want in regards to anything. Things like 3rd party tools, or whatever taj used to do, are looked down on by SE and would either be censored or deter people with such information from sharing it here.
2: Creating a new forum would either badly segment the population or force everyone to one side or the other, making the move effectively pointless if they go to the "dirty" side or cause them to lose a lot of freedom if they go to the premier side.
3: There isn't a lot to gain by becoming a premier site except a bit more traffic, and even that's doubtful considering BG's popularity. We already have bercus as a source for occasional exclusive content, and that's the main draw of premier sites in the first place.
Why not go to both sites? BG-freedom and BG-premier. You'd go to BG-premier to learn all the latest and greatest, and then hop over to BG-freedom to do what you do normally. Nothing would change, except you'd have an extra forum to visit. If that had been the case a short while ago, we'd have an extra Mythic weapon to look at.
Nothing to gain?
How about, instead of getting to bitch more, you get more access to ask those questions straight from the devs in person that we always wanted answers to. Or, you can leave it up to Alla to ask their own questions. I mean, why put out any sort of effort or work, when it's easier to complain?
So no new update teaser today?
..Llllike we do now? Last I checked, alla didn't have any more access than we did in terms of asking direct questions and they don't complain any less, unless you don't count the bitching that gets pointed at the horribly elitist BG. I personally am pointing out why it's just a useless aethetic change that doesn't really add anything and if you think there's any real WORK involved in being a premier site, then I don't think you've actually used the bulk of them.
Jumping between two sites for the same community is a clunky and arbitrary chore. People will invariably stick to the one they like best, and since as I've said, being a premier site doesn't really offer anything, most people would side with the old style for the sake of familiarity and freedom, making the change totally pointless.
There is no advantage, it's all sound and fury signifying nothing. BG is a place where you can complain loudly and sometimes intellegently with as much imagination as you can muster. Being able to do that while talking about a video game you also happen to play is just icing on thethat is conversation. Oh, but I'm sorry, this is obviously pointed at the owners. Why don't you continue telling Sono and Nikkei they're not running their site the right way.
Several Mythic weapons say you're wrong. And who is to say what comes in the future? Apparently, these premier site summits will happen more often. Who is to say what could happen in the future? I do know, that sitting around and bitching won't accomplish much.
I visit several different forums and sites for FFXI info. I hardly think I'm alone in this. If each site has something I like, I'll go to it.Jumping between two sites for the same community is a clunky and arbitrary chore. BG is also a place for the latest info discovered in the game, and usually the most knowledgeable people to discuss the implications of such. I'd like it without all the whining, and with more intelligent elitism, but I realize I can't have everything. There is no advantage, it's all sound and fury signifying nothing. Indeed, I wasn't originally talking to you, but you did choose to speak for them. I merely stated what I would do: get the best of both worlds. Obviously, how the BG people want to run their site, is ultimately up to them.Oh, but I'm sorry, this is obviously pointed at the owners. If they want to miss out on a mythic weapon, and who knows what else in the future, that's their choice.
Frankly, while the suggestion of splitting the site is atleast an attempt for an idea for BG to become premiere, it's just not worth it in our eyes. Running one forum is hard enough and the idea of having to run a second is just too much @.@. We enjoy being the place that people discuss strategies and various other in-game things but we don't want a monopoly on ffxi sites. It's nice that each ffxi site can cover various things for people, rather than one site with everything. We're perfectly fine with getting our information with all the other viewers from actual premiere sites. It's not like it stops people from discussing them on our forums, so we don't mind if it's a couple of hours or a day later.
There are other FFXI sites?
