Is this too big of a gap?

Currently, i am 70 Bonecraft and i am trying to stay away from lose of synthing coral gear or other NPC stuff. Right now im thinking of going to 71 with Kilo Fans (i know ifs NPC but its a cheap synth) and then from 71 i was thinking about doing Saintly Ring but they cap at 81. They are a cheap synth and i can farm the rings, but is this level gap too big? Advanced support of course but i have no GP gear yet. Should i just get both my GP items for the +2 skill and then give it a try?

Also, with advanced support and +2 skill thats +5skill bringing me withing 5 levels of the cap, does this mean i will get skill ups off breaks?

    Thanks in advanced

So no, even with adv synth support and +2 gear, you can't skill up on breaks. Your natural skill (no synth support/gear) has to be within 5 levels. 10 is a large gap but if the mats are cheap and easy to farm then you should give it a shot. Just expect a ton of breaks early on. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT. I usually wont do synths more than 8 below cap because it's downright discouraging to break 12 synths in a row. But to each his own.

Depending on other options, sometimes its the cheaper route. I did it with Leathercraft since it was cheaper/easier to get mats for a synth 10 levels above (not counting support) than it would have been for other options.

But like you said, the break rate will be kinda high at first.
