I know I'm a bit late on the China bashing, but seeing those god damn Chinese girls beat our clearly-above-16 girls pisses me off so badly. I really hope we end up beating them not only on the total medal count, but the gold count as well. I know we have some ground to make up; hopefully we can dominate track and field.

    And while Shawn may not "fuckable" cute, Alicia most definitely is.. >.>;

Edit: Oh yeah, I'd recommend not missing the 100m Free Final tomorrow night. It may not be a Phelps Final, but I'm really hoping Sullivan will beat Bernard. And who knows, maybe Lezak has some magic left; as long as Bernard doesn't get gold, I'll take some satisfaction out the race. :D

It's OK guys, I'm finally here for soccer, despite it being 5:20 AM EST.

    US 0 - Nigeria 0

    Let's go USA!

God, what a waste to get up this early, we look shitty and will get bounced from this tourney. Can't believe we fucked the win against the Dutch.

God, it's tough being a fan of USA soccer.

    1 - 0 Nigeria, 45th minute.

Didn't realize we were playing down a man.

Japan is tied with the Dutch so far - if that results stands, we advance.

But I fully expect Dutch to win and us to lose.

I don't know much about soccer, so why are the US playing with only 10 people for the at least the last 50 minutes since I've started watching?

We had a player ejected in the third minute - you cannot replace ejected players.

    Nigeria 2, USA 1

Combined with Dutch 1-0 win over Japan, USA is eliminated from the soccer tournament.

    So close...

Elbow to the face of Nigerian player.

If that last header would have gone just below the crossbar, that would have been 2 goals in 2 minutes - one of the greatest comebacks in history, especially since we were down 1 player.

    Thats their entire roster.
Is this the Olympic roster? From your first sentence, it seems like you were trying to refute that there are MLB players in the world baseball classic judging from our earlier conversations on that subject.

Anyways, Canada just beat Holland 9-2 in softball so they are looking strong for their next game against the States.

The main host just said that a dominant reason why softball won't be at the 2012 games is because the U.S. team is so dominant in the sport. They outscored their opponents 61-1 in Athens.

To me, I think this is one of the dumbest reasons ever to ban a sport. You punish the sport because one country is so dominant? Give me a break! When the U.S. men's basketball team dominated the 1992 games, did they ban it in 1996 to save everyone's feelings so they wouldn't get slaughtered? No. The other countries stepped up their game to match the U.S. and now many countries are right up there with the States.

The domination of the Americans in softball is good for the sport because it will drive other countries to compete harder and will over time, slowly cause other countries to become more competitive.

Banning a sport because one country is too good is just beyond mind boggling. Fucking IOC.

The new rumor out of China is that most, if not all, of the performers in the opening ceremonies were part of the military. I guess they were forced to stay there over 24 hours a few times to practice.

So bot the Canadian mens and womens ball teams have some tough opponents coming up: Canada v. Cuba for baseball and Canada v. USA for softball. Going to be interesting to see how they hold on against these traditional powerhouse teams.

Also, Canada v. USA in women's soccer - yikes. It should be a good match no doubt, especially since there's no love lost between the Canadian and American ladies when it comes to soccer, but I honestly don't hold out much hope for our women's team against the yanks.

    Why?

We'd just own the sport for the first 2-3 olympics, culminating in what would be called the "Dream Team", only to watch subsequent "Dream Teams" fall short of expectations due to a lack of taking the event seriously, before returning a decade and a half later as the "Redeem Team," which actually has to work a little harder than expected to match up to the nostalgic team that set the bar so high.
