I think because when it was live it was earlier in the day for most people to watch?

I dunno, I think the IOC will do something after the games are over, stripping the the Chinese of their medals during the games would just fuck everything up.

In 2000, a chinese girl admitted she was underage when she competed. I don't think they stripped her.

Wow, if you can find evidence on their ages just by googling, I'm sure even the idiots in the IOC can.

Did anyone catch the men's triathlon? Wow, what an awesome finish, Canadian Simon Whitfield, the gold medal winner from Sydney, just lost the gold in the last 250 m to the German guy. So far, the best finish in these games hands down.

I hope the Chinese do get stripped but judging past actions by the IOC (bribes, judges tampering with scores, etc), I'm not sure.

Tyche, I would email that list to a news source to try to get some light on this. People in the news have been crying for blood for a couple of days and I'm sure any news agency will take such an email seriously.

That tie breaker and scoring sucks. Seriously over and over it seems like America is getting boned out of golds in womens gymnastics. On top of it all they're competing against girls who shouldn't even be there.

I think the IOC will have no choice but to launch an investigation after the games, unless they want to lose any of the credibility they still have left, which isn't much... If they don't, who's going to stop any totalitarian country from sending 14 year olds with forged passports?

I have a feeling it is rigged in favour of the Chinese. It's the figure skating scandal all over again >.<

Well, to be honest, none of us will care less about this in a month. It's sad they didn't win, but unless something really pours out over a complete IOC revamp and investigation, people are stripped, or Nastia punches that 14 year old in the face, then we won't care sooner than later.

Bella, for the most part, I admire to speaking the truth about the judging. He isn't trying to be politically correct about most things. He just speaks the truth. Looking at the entire routines of the athletes you can see that he is "slighlty" correct. While the judges may be from all countries, you can't expect them to be free of any "persuasion". And I think that gymnastics may be the sport that China my most want to win (hence they may 'force' their opinion on any other).

Or she can have Alicia punch her out lol.

But yeah. you're probably right. No one will probably care until the next olympics that is.

It's just that people lose confidence in the system and then the game just becomes a joke. Imagine, for example, if swimming was timed by people on the floor with a stopwatch and their time is final. They give the gold to that Cavich (sp?) guy and Phelps wins silver, just to watch the super slow-mo clip of him touching slightly before. That's what gymnasts must feel like, especially the Americans this year.

Personally I'd rather have a committee of judges from every country competing along with a separate committee of judges from other nations that just pour over replays and find every single flaw from each gymnast, then post one score based on that. Then be able to show every single mistake and exactly why they got that score. I wouldn't care if it took 2 hours or even a full day to figure out the scores, it's better then having a bunch of countries that don't know what they're doing judging an event on the fly.

Actually I think it would be good for the sport if they didn't get their scores right away. I like the thought of a gymnast going into their last event having no clue what place their in. Right now they can play it safe and in some cases change their routine to make it harder... Kind of lame.

Honestly women's gymnastics was pretty much a joke this year. Pretty much every single score except one (the last girl on the uneven bars event finals) for the chinese was "surprisingly" high and every single score for the americans was "surprisingly" low.

Not to mention the age thing (whoever said the puberty thing, it's both, they're all like 12 and about 1% body fat, it's one thing to see ribs on gymnasts it's quite another to be looking at hip bones and crap), together it pretty much made any medals won by the Chinese completely meaningless.

Yeah, when the comentators are at the point where they stop being nice about it, and start picking out specific judges (hi2uAustralia) because of the rediculous variations in scoring, you know that it's become a farce.

What was the reason of the scoring system change again? I like it when it was a 10 point scale... now I don't know what is good or bad at a glance.

supposedly it was more accurate. All of the components are the same (level of difficulty, panel of judges, possible maximum score), but it's supposed to remove a big chunk of subjective judgement.

If you had to give so-and-so a score between 1 and 10 based on the overall performance, you would have a lot of chances to really have your judgement colored. But if you start with a maximum score and only are responsible for marking deductions based on faltering, then the job "should" be easier and more fair.

I call bullshit, but that seems to be the system that's presented.
