just go to the doctor. nothing you can do is really going to provide you lasting relief. i had surgery on mine when i was 11, at which point i'd been dealing with it off and on for 2 years. i'd even miss school some days just cuz it hurt so much to walk on it. go to a doctor. srsly.

and yea soaking your foot in warm water and epsom salt helps but its not gonna make the infection go away. the doctor gave me antibiotics but those never really made the infection go completely away either.

When I was like 14 I had my first one on my right foot and went to a podiatrist and he sprayed my toe with some ice stuff to numb it, and stuck in a LARGE needle to numb it, took it out. month and a half later it came back and he put acid on the root to keep it from coming back. That worked for like a year and it came back, so since then I've kinda taken things into my own hands cus I didn't feel like going back ( I probably will sooner than later to try to get it fixed permanently).

My right foot big to on the left side and Left big toe on the right side periodically when they grow out will get ingrown, and all I've done is (and this hurts quite a bit) taken one of those small sharp scissors and cut straight down the side of my nail, and pulling the whole side out. It's worked ok for me, I just soak a gauze with alcohol and bandage it up when done.
I have grown into a little problem though, my right toe I clipped the top too short when I pulled it out one time and now my skin has grown over the nail so it can't go out of my foot anymore and it's kinda like my nail is an island instead of a peninsula if that makes sense <.< Idk if the doctor can do anything about that :/

go to your local doctor, general practitioner will do. Tell them you want to get an ingrown nail removed. Go there, you'll get like 2-3 shots in your foot that will make it swell up all huge and make it go /mostly/ numb. after that they'll rub some brown shit on it, then they'll take a pair of scissor like things and proceed to murder your foot open. WHen its open they'll remove the ingrown nail with tweezer like cutty things. When said nail is gone, they will apply some more shit to the site where the ingrown nail was, making it not grow back ever again because they kill the root there or some shit. Done.

10~ minutes of pretty bad pain but better than walking around with an ingrown nail forever. And not being able to get one after that is pure win.

I used to perform self surgery all the time, but they'll keep coming back. As others have said, having a doctor cut the side off & kill the root is the way to go. I had mine done about ten years ago- they cut the side out & stuck the butt end of a giant qtip under my skin to the root & killed it with w/e was on the stick. Usually one time will prevent them from coming back, unless your toenails are extremely arched, in which case you'll probably need it done again later.

What anesthetic were you getting? It hurts like a bitch be cause of the location, and sometimes you can feel the needle scraping the bone.

Either that or my doctor is an asshole.

Novacaine I guess it was. The needle didn't hurt me any more than any other needle I've gotten in the past, there was definitely no scraping of the bone.

I used to get ingrown toe nails all the time. Like once a month. I'd just cut them out myself and go on with my life, but eventually one kept coming back again and again on my left big toe. So I went to the doctor, they cut off the side, made it so just that part won't grow back. The nail is a bit thinner than before but it's not even noticeable to others unless I point it out, and no problems since.

I had them, cut them out myself, and eventually wised up and started wearing shoes with more wiggle room in the toes.

that's what i did after one of mine got crazy infected, it turned into a huge bubble and if you touched it it'd basically start bleeding all over the place (hurt like a bitch too), it's a simple procedure where all they do is cut the nail (after numbing it of course) and then cauterize the sides

but to be honest the easiest way to get rid of ingrown toe-nails is to just cut them/pull the whole nail out (in my experience)

also, you can avoid them fairly easily by just cutting your toenails as a flat line, rather than following the curve of the nail that you'd assume to be like your fingernails, that way (as long as they're already not in the skin) they aren't likely to grow into the sides of your toes

i got an infection in my right toe and had this awesome scab inside from digging around trying to get it out. clean it off with peroxide whenever you can (it makes sweet tingly bubbles) and avoid doing anything that puts pressure on it until you can see someone (doctors can usually help but as said just go to a podiatrist)

If you dont have the insurance/cash and are the type of people thats puts shit off, wrap it in soft guass or bandage wraps and buy a lot of peroxide and prepare to realize just how many times in the day you stub your toe
