I personally am disgusted with John Edwards for going forward with his presidential bid knowing this was hanging over him. If he were the presumptive nominee right now, the Democratic party would be in chaos, the convention a free-for-all.

This is a huge betrayal to the people who support him politically. Gleaming example of ambition run amok.

This is how I feel also. I don't know how you can do something so stupid (and yes, cheating is way, WAY more stupid when you're a politician) and run for office, especially president at the same time.

The irony here is that our sitting president is an admitted C student and once fell off a Segway.

The further irony here is that promoting yourself as an intellectual with few character flaws makes you an enormous target of attacks of 'elitism' from the conservative right, immediately putting out 'out of touch' with the common blue-collar man.

Standards are fine if you apply them evenly and realistically. McCain divorced his wife after a 1 year relationship with another woman. 10% of the U.S. House of Representatives are divorced. It seems not all of America needs their government representatives to be flawless by an arbitrary moral or educational compass.
