They attacked russian protectorate. Killed their peacekeepers. Mekhail is either an idiot or a complete tool. What the fuck did he expect? Think of this practically, say there is a giant bear guarding some honey. You roll up, smack the bear on the ass. What would happen?
I'm telling you, Russia is gonna destroy georgian army. Then use diplomacy to stop bombings in exchange for their territory. It's that simple. And no way is georgia getting into NATO now.
They've been backing the South Ossetian rebels, that doesn't sound much like peace keeping. If Georgia had told the Russians to get out, they wouldn't have. Yeh, Georgia may have sparked off this increased fighting by launching a surprise attack but theres been fighting and instability going on for years now. Russia's just been waiting for something like this to happen.
So Georgia has allegedly called for a cease fire and has retreated its troops from South Ossetia but Russia claims this is false, so they're continuing their blitz and even sending out ships. I can't help but laugh hysterically at this whole thing since it's right out of the good old war book. I'm just wondering, when does the UN and other world powers intend to stop Russia?
I think the US is being more directly against Russia now. Not that they'll do anything other than talk. Most countries are seeing Russia as the aggressor here.
Also, apparently Russia has moved about 4000 troops to Abkhazia and tensions are rising there. Georgia has moved a similar amount of troops in that direction.
Georgia has the most troops of any nation in Iraq don't they? I wonder what that'll mean, if anything.
It's of any nation other than ourselves, and the 2nd highest contributor.
As for ownership of a region, the loyalties of the citizenry don't really play a factor. It's a legal boundary issue. Just because they all want to be Russian doesn't make them Russian. They haven't officially seceded, or been annexed, yet.
I read somewhere they pulled about half their troops out of Iraq. Which was 1000 out of their 2000 stationed there. Is that the second highest contributer? I'm pretty sure the UK has about 4000 there atm.
Oh right. I see what you mean. So US > UK > Georgia in terms of troop numbers (before they pulled out 1000). Still didn't realise Georgia had so many troops there.
perhaps you misunderstand something. If it helps clear anything up, North Ossetia IS russian territory. There are people who live in the south and work in the north, and vise versa.
It was a UN resolution to keep peacekeepers there as well.
Mekhail totally effed his country by attacking s. ossetia. Yes, what russia is doing is absolutely wrong, but America would act likewise... hell, any other nation would act likewise.
I know North Ossetia is Russian territory. This is about South Ossetia, which is Georgian territory. The UN let Russia move peacekeeprs in, not back the rebels. The UN just gave them a good excuse to move supplies in.
There's not much else Georgia could have done. They would have had to either fight for South Ossetia or let the Russians take it. Same is probably going to happen with Abkhazia unless Georgia get some help or they manage to get a ceasefire soon.
The UN or any other world powers shouldn't be intending anything.
and that's what I've been getting at. They can't possibly take it by force, and they were probably gonna lose it going through UN as well, this much was somewhat evident. So why even try force and ruin your country? Does it make any sense to you?
Besides, precedent was set with kosovo with regards to UN and rebels breaking away.
Georgia has been blanked out on Google maps @@;
