    When do prescriptions expire?

Back in June of 08 I wen't and got an eye exam for contacts (renewing) and my doctor in another state wrote me a prescription to order my contacts. But I never did, I was wondering. If I haven't used my prescription yet online to order contacts, is it still valid?

Someone told me this works with contacts since the prescription usually lasts a year for a (one) time use.

    Thanks

Rx run out after a year in the state of florida, going to assume it's like that everywhere. Don't know specifically about glasses/contacts since they're not a drug.

It also depends on your insurance and the type of contacts. For example, a medicine you might recieve a 6 month supply all at once on previously with insurance A, will be cut down to only a 3 month supply, with only 1 month given at a time with insurance B. It's not that the RX is expired or bad, but that the insurance you have doesn't allow the pharmacy/contacts distributor to give you more than that.

Edit: Also, some insurances require a "prior-authorization" where they have to go through your insurance and make sure that the diagnosis the doctor is giving you the medicine for is covered. It's ridiculous how some of the judgements are for that though. I've seen people's insurance deny medications for heart problems because it wasn't severe enough. Like stopping the problem BEFORE it becomes severe isn't a good idea.

I don't have vision insurance. Thanks for the quick replies though. My eyes are starting to get annoyed from these old contacts.

Don't wear contacts that aren't the correct type because they can damage your eyes a lot quicker than the wrong prescription for glasses. If it's honestly an issue and you have to be seen again before they will give you the right prescription, just ask for an emergency ration to hold you over till the appointment. Most eye doctors will carry sets of contacts in the office.

Well the vision/correction thing is fine. Its just these contacts are 2 1/2 months old. (I clean them daily/let them sit over night. I mainly only use contacts for work.

But yeah, I had the vision test done at a local Wal-Mart for around $99.00 in another state. So I'm happy I don't have to pay again for another prescription lol.

I once wore the same pair of contacts for like a year (I cleaned them daily). Then I got this huge nasty bump on my eyelid that kept swelling more and more. I had to dip a washcloth in boiling water and press it against my eye over and over for like three days before it finally went away.

Now I replace my contacts as soon as they're supposed to be replaced.

wow, you're lucky you had disposables. I was stuck with semi-impermeable toric lenses- go go being astigmatic and SEVERELY near-sighted. On that note, anyone have that particular double-whammy having success with current contacts? I'm reconsidering going back to contacts so I can have such niceties as peripheral vision and being able to see in the water (wearing a mask/goggles of course!)

The way you get a Rx filled and the time it takes for the written Rx to become invalid are two different things. The actual Rx(regardless of when it's filled or for how long) will expire after a year.

edit: Also lasik ftmfw. worth every penny.
