    Verizon Fios

So I just bought a house and apparently Fios is availible in my neighborhood. It's either them or Crapcast.

Was wondering, what does anyone here have it? If so what do you think about it? Is it better then Comcast? Price wise, it does look a lot better.

Got it, love it, will never go back.
A friend of mine has the Comcast boosted package, whatever the fuck that is...

I routinely download I would say at least twice as fast, if not just under twice as fast.
The only time I lost service was when the house lost power.

That was 4 months ago, I've had it for over 15 months.

FiOS is typically rated as the top residential broadband in the US, and with good reason. They typically have better speeds and throughput than cable.

Just as a note though, FiOS is oversubscribed just like everything else. Just because they offer 15/15 symmetrical service doesn't mean you're going to get that, especially at prime time.

Thanks guys for the recommendations. I've had comcast for so long, I didn't know if this stuff was actually better.

Anyone have experience with AT&T's fiber service? Can't get Verizon FIOS but can get that.

I also would get fios if offered in my place, but its not available in my area. I did a lot of research into the providers in my area, and I really wanted fios badly haha

in my area FiOS will cut out unexpectedly from time to time, I live in a pretty densely populated area (northern NJ) in an entire apartment building wired for FiOS so I can only figure it's either bottlenecking or whateverthefuck radio signals interrupting things. When it does work, FiOS is really really fast, but I had far less service interruptions with Optimum Online. Maybe it's just my area, who knows.

That being said I don't have many problems/complaints with FiOS itself. However, FiOS may be great, but Verizon is a pack of wild retards. Just pray you never have a family member die with the phone service under their name, or move, or have a problem they have to fix, or are subject to their horrible lack of any basic interdepartmental communication or even the tiniest shred of human compassion. Their services are great, but the company is a giant flaming bottle of monkey douche.

AT&T is fiber-to-the-node, and FIOS is fiber-to-the-house. Fiber to the node connection does you no good if the node to the house connection is run like a cable company...

Most likely is, we have Time Warner Cable TV and HSI (to my room) and ATT DSL wireless to the rest of the house. ATT sales guys came around other day trying to convince my dad to switch the whole house (TV + internet) to fiber, but if its not going to be any faster than Roadrunner F-that.

if I can make one recommendation about fios, when you get it get strong battery backups for the internet part, one little flicker and the fios system can sometimes take an hour to reboot, its not common but it happens

Man did you even have to ask this question, FIOS without a doubt. Where I live (Delaware county PA) Comcast is absolutely horrible when it comes to reliability, and everyone already knows their customer service sucks ass.

I've had FIOS for a few months now and my only (tiny) complaint is that occassionally channels will freeze for about 2-3 seconds, but it doesn't happen very often. When I had Comcast every time it was even drizzling outside I would lose my cable and internet, upwards of hours at a time, and that hasn't happened once yet with FIOS.

My only complaint with Fios was the lack of HD programming, but as of August 1st they added like 70 more HD channels. DL speeds over 2.5m/s off torrents, and as pretty much everyone else said, it pwns.
