So I'm about to hit alchemy 92 (91.7)... and all this time I knew what the success directions were, but I never knew the HQ directions. Now since I'm facing HQ directions, I've been HQing probably 50-75% more than I ever was. So today I tried doing a few Hawker's knives since I'm in tier 1... and what do you know, I went 1/4 on +1s. I was 0/10. I'm HQing more glass fiber from goblin/moblin masks, making more mercury, prism powder, etc., and went 4/12 on cermet knife +1s, just fooling around (you can get a small profit off 'em). I sit and realize why so many people get HQs on their synths and I always wondered if that could be me... and now, hey, it can!

Someone slap me for this thoughtless, mindless error I've been doing for so long. Elemental wheel is your friend... and now my best friend.

I haven't really visited this site very often in the past, and seldomly look at Allakhazam. I focus too much on skilling up and stuff... getting my money for skilling up from KS30s since I'm a BLM. It's just something I never really paid attention to, and considering I have major ADHD, it's more of a reason why something so simple didn't seem to occur to me.

Summary: None of the more accomplished crafters (on this board) believe in directional theories. No conclusive evidence has been shown; small samples (such as yours) may very well show certain directions are better. Large samples invariably result a return to the norm.

Your run of good luck will be balanced out by an eventual run of crappy luck under similar conditions.

Yeah, I've read up on how direction is just a theory, but doing it won't hurt. And I have had some crappy luck in the past, so maybe this small run of luck balanced it. Woowoo.

In that case you should also keep the "appropriate" barspells up, equip certain staves, and wait for just the right day and moon before doing any HQ synth! Doesn't hurt right?

Also make sure that when you craft Fire Crystal synths you go to the Cloister of Flames while wearing a Karin Obi for the double weather proc.

Surprised no one mentioned the main HQ factor.

When attempting to HQ only have the mats in your inventory for the synth that way you have more opportunity for HQ chance when the game checks your open slots, 1% per slot so if you're 5/70 you'll automatically have 65+1%base HQ rate on tier0.

Surprising the things that crafters don't pick up on even after getting to 100...
