    college radio

Yeah, I'm an old fart, but when I'm cruising down the street at 5:45 am on my way to work in my family sedan fully equipped with two car seats in the back I at least like to pretend I'm still cool. I flip to the local college radio station from time to time when I'm not totally wrapped up in what NPR is trying to feed me and I really like it more than the mainstream rock stations nowadays. They've probably been streaming online for 10 years now, but it only recently occurred to me to listen to the station online while at work. That, of course, made me realize there were probably 10,000 other stations out there as well. Anyone have experience with a few good stations?

Also, over the past 5 years or so I've heard several great songs that I don't know the artist for. Is there some sort of 'college radio top 100' list out there somewhere for every year? It would be even better if you could click on it to hear 5-10 seconds of the song since so many of those alternative types tend to title their songs in a way that doesn't resemble the lyrics at all.

I suppose there are 'gold standards' of internet radio that I have no idea about as well. Feel free to throw those in if you want.

Actually, any radio stations online at all. Aside from di.fm, I'm really wishing I knew where to listen to just... like.. more 'regular' radio stations, online.

alot they have a wide variety of radio stations all seem to be pretty much commercial free so I'm sure you can find one you want to hear.

I don't really listen to much radio except when I make it down to New Jersey where I listen to Seton Hall's Pirate Radio mostly, which only really sucks on the weekends where they play emo on Saturday I think, and gospel on Sunday (since they're a religious school afaik). They make me laugh.. unintentionally. The dude who does traffic, weather and news kills me with his awkwardness. Also, he pronounces 'burglary' as 'berg-er-ler-ee' and constantly has to defend his love for the Pokeman game, which makes me choke on my Aloush Special ^_^
    BTW They play mostly metal.

I listen to woxy.com which is based in Cincinnati and streams worldwide. Great selection of indy music. I compliment that by frequently visiting hypem.org regularly.

I used to listen to www.idobi.com, but I just went there and saw they had the Jonas Brothers on the front page, so don't listen to it

Hi Shalyn! How are you doing?

I only listen to 102.1 The Edge here in Toronto. Traditional rock station. The morning show is called the Dean Blundell and those assholes are really funny.

As far as the internet radio part gooes, I think the Edge was the number two most listened to rock station on the internet for a while. Dunno if that is still the case today.

Sup Kang! I sent you a PM! Also, 102.1 sucks big, I remember having it as my alarm station before I got an iHome and I almost went nuts because they kept playing the same song(s) every morning around the same time. I prefer either Q107 or that Buffalo Edge station when reception is good.

It's a NPR station and has a fantastic mix of music shows. Some of the stuff I'm not really into - like the world music - but it's pretty much one of the most acclaimed radio stations in America. Good listening for just about anything.

I host a show called "It's to Early" with a friend of mine for the local college station here in orlando, WPRK. (Posting this from the station). Has nice mix of stuff, depending on the time of day. My show is on from the sexy time of 3-6am wednesday mornings. (>_>). On my show, we play a lot of classic alternative stuff, and some newer rock. Can't say everything we play at the station is great, a lot of the DJ's here play a lot of indie and scene crap, but later at night it gets better. But for the most part its a pretty good station. Don't have a lot of alternatives here in orlando.
