Earplugs too uncomfortable? They usually help me sleep through anything.
Unless of course you can't wake up on time when you're deafened. Luckily light entering my windows wakes me up.

If I used earplugs I'd happily sleep in 'til three in the afternoon. I just put black metal on my stereo instead: it drowns out everything and is strangely soothing to me. Then when my alarm comes on at 7:00AM blaring out Glenn Miller, the shock of the change kicks me awake.
I'm an incredibly light sleeper, and the walls are super thin. I already keep my ceiling fan on, but that doesn't drown out the laughter and screams of 19-22 year olds.
The thing with moving is rent in Cali is pretty damn high, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to afford living on my own. I'd love to move but that isn't anywhere in the near future.
I'm pretty much not going to get out of this situation without being a bitch. Inc rage mode next time it happens. I work tomorrow as well, so we'll see heh
When you get up nice and early for work, crank the music, bang the shit out of the dishes as you make breakfast, slam a few doors, walk really heavily. Your roommate has probably only had a few hours sleep at this point since he was up keeping you awake. He might get the point after you do this consistently.
My roommate used to invite people over when I would need to sleep for class at 8AM, and be loud as all get out. I would tell him constantly that he needed to shut the fuck up because I was never loud when he needed to sleep so I deserved the same thing.
No dice.
So anytime he was watching a movie with his buddies, or hanging out with them when I didn't need to sleep, I would walk out on the phone and talk to my friend about gay porn, and penises, and other such things while taking too long to make some PBJ or pouring myself a glass of water, and when I'd leave I'd always finish with a "Oh, yeah, dude. If that's coming up I'm going back in there to finish myself off right now..."
We eventually reached an understanding.
Ceiling fans are not nearly enough white noise. You need a good, quiet, whooshy box fan or combo fan/heater. Mine's a few years old now, this would be what I figure is the current model.

As a fan it's perfect, it's just a whooshy noise, mostly drowns out everything, and no humming or anything in the motor which actually would keep me up. I also have found the heater part handy in my non-insulated room. Heh. And this type of model is like, typically under $20; I remember picking mine up at a Walgreens.
However, if you need more, then a standard box fan may do you more good, and you can also still get one under $20. I got this one at Wal-Mart:

for like $16. I needed something to circulate the air from my AC window unit better, and it ended up being just awesome to go to sleep to, at least for me. Just drowns out everything and doesn't have a hum, just a nice whooshy noise.
Hopefully something like that, combined with yet another talk with your roomie - perhaps best when his friends aren't around - will help solve the issues.
Don't talk to him in the moment, wait for the middle of the day when the issue isn't present. He probably doesn't want to be the wet blanket that says "Guys, guys, be quiet," to his friends when they're over.
And you'd be surprised how ineffectual 'doing it back' really is.. by the time you're making noise when he wants to sleep, he's not in the logical frame of mind to say "Oh hay, I guess I was a real jerk. I should sure mend my ways", he's planning the biggest party to get back at you.
theres the guilt route...
if you guys listen 1 answering machine have someone with a professional voice talk like your doctor saying your ex. heart condition is a result of lack of sleep, bla bla bla, take some tic tacs in a bottle and what not.
People may be reminded of a certain fuckhead I talked about in the Soul Calibur 4 thread (yes, the wanksta piece of white trash). While living in the previous apartment, he had the tendency to invite his friends over. These were guys who were still in high school, along with their girlfriends, or his girlfriend's friends. I would have been fine with it, if they weren't a bunch of ghetto pieces of shit that is.
After nights having to get barely any sleep in order to stumble into class the following morning, I finally delivered to him a shot in the mouth. He thought it was nothing until other roommate and I forced him out of the place two weeks later (kind of nice when you have evidence of excessive drug use and statutory rape as a bargaining chip).
Forgive me for sounding mean about this, but to put it bluntly, you need to man up. I understand you're a light sleeper, but there are plenty of things you can do like get earplugs, get a relaxing playlist on your ipod and fall asleep listening to that, get a big ass fan for your room or anything to drown out the noise. Yelling at your roommates won't do anything, getting "revenge" on them will just make them not give a shit about you.
I lived with 3 pothead roommates for a year, they were always loud and always made noise even when I had to sleep, but you just have to adjust to it. I know it's shitty that you have to make the adjustment and they don't, but if moving out is not an option you're going to have to maintain a good relationship with these guys, and coming off like a bitch is just going to make things go sour in a hurry.
The Mad real world skit from Chappelle's show immediately came to mind.
You clearly have never been in this situation before, otherwise you'd know that if they haven't listened to him already they never will, and his only options are to A) move out or B) deal with it. If he keeps complaining its only going to make shit worse and probably turn his roommates against him.
I actually have experience with this same problem as well. It got so bad that people were up and drunk until 6am every single day of the week. I don't drink heavily and I had to be up for class at 7am every day except the weekend. What I did was go out into the common area, physically pick some drunk kid up, threw him out the front door and kicked him in the stomach. Luckily, these were all little scene fags and they didn't have the balls to attack me as a group. Then I told everyone else that I was going to do the same to them if they didn't get out and never come back. Then I moved out anyways because my roommates were pricks.
I lived with my best friend and another friend and now my best friend is no longer my best friend, but I still speak to the other one. It's alright with me though, I don't want friends who have no consideration for others.
For you, the best course of action is probably to just get an iPod and listen to it when you sleep. Also tell your roommates to stop being douchebags.
