I didn't know NATO countries allowed insurgencies, even if your comment is wrong. Every report so far has been Georgian regulars, there have been some reports of South Ossetians in Gori being drunken retards but it's not substantiated, and falls on Russia to police and prevent.

Why are you laughing may I ask? She heard bombs, yet in the end reports suggest that there were very little civilian casualties and that most of the injured were S.Ossetian militia. From hrw at least... Note that you can probably hear bombs within a good 20-30 miles, probably more.

On the other side of things we know there were casualties, all civilian from what I've read, in Gori from Russian bombings. It's also been proven that Russia has been dropping cluster bombs, considered illegal in most nations in the world, in civilian locations. Many Georgian towns located in the S.Ossetia area were also burned to the ground while the locals fled, no clue how many were killed there, but it's quite obvious the S.Ossetians militia isn't concerned with civilian safety.

That said, it's been reported that Georgia, when entering S.Ossetia, did not plan on attacking. They were attacked and responded with their own attack, which escalated and eventually evolved into the current situation. Some will say that's a lie, of course with no real proof. In my opinion I would call it a very likely situation. S.Ossetians have been quoted saying that Georgian soldiers specifically told them they would not shoot if not shot at, this from civilian S.Ossetians both from different villages. It's not proof, but it's better then "nuh uh i like teh russians".

Why they originally entered the contested territory in Georgia is still pretty much unknown, at least to me. The president of Georgia claims that it was a response to attacks from S.Ossetia militia that killed Georgian military, but of course some people around here wouldn't even believe that if they saw it with their own eyes.

I'm also not seeing anything regarding Russia dropping cluster bombs on civilians.

I also think your "reporting" about Georgia not intending to attack when entering S. Ossetia is flawed, especially since Georgian soldiers are pretty incompetent and everything I've read open source on this matter only continues to prove that impression. This is important when reading articles because if it sounds too good, too disciplined, too amazing, it's likely it didn't get done by anything Georgian.

Liking and respecting a countries actions are different things. Russia acted in one group of peoples interests, now it's likely some suffering will continue for the others. Like I've already said, it's Russia's responsibility to attempt to ensure this, but the history of Ossetia and Georgia may make that difficult. If Russia hadn't acted, the West and Georgian interests would have been served. It's pretty clear they had been planning for this and biding their time until they could make their stand. This was it, garts Russia.
