Anyone here ever shoot a deer?
My reason for asking is that an average sized buck is going to weigh what... 120 lbs? Maybe 150 to 170, with the larger ones exceeding 200 lbs on occasion. Once you kill this animal, or at least in my experience, it takes two men to haul that 150 lbs of dead weight(npi) out of the woods and back to camp, excepting of course, those "hunters" who drive ATVs to their tree stands and kills.
If they found a body, and recovered it, and we are guesstimating the creature's height at 8 feet tall, it is reasonable to assume a gross weight of 250+ lbs of dead weight they had to recover. Now, two men did not manually haul that much dead body weight out of the woods short of hacking it into pieces. And even at that, the gross weight remains the same, it's only slightly less awkward to carry.
In closing: Bullshit.
Edit: My mistake, upon rereading the article again, it was a 7 foot corpse weighing 500 lbs.
Conclusion: Still bullshit. Just twice as much as the original estimate.
