    Spoiler: show
I'll be honest, this play by post thing is going to suck later on for battles when the mobs aren't one hit KOed. I think we should look into playing by post and in addition getting on IRC like the old groups used to do. >.> It seems like they got alot done by reading the posts.

edit: Also it can be something other than IRC, just anything we can do in real time.

Somoe's wave of crashing thunder slams into only one of the Hobgoblins and sends him right out of building, taking the already damaged door with him. The other looks behind him with disbelief in his eyes.

Variz's freezing breath engulfs two hobgoblins and the one goblin. The remaining hobgoblin was able to duck in time. The two hobgoblins Variz managed to hit fall to the ground as half-frozen and shivering bodies. The goblin grunts "Pansies!" and spits. The torch in his hand remains lit.

The hobgoblin(F) who was able to avoid Variz's attack seeks to put an end to the half-dragon. He moves face to face to Variz (M-8 ) and swings his longsword. Unfortunately for him, he narrowly misses Variz's shoulder.

On the other side of the tavern, the hobgoblin(H) hurries (G-4) to attack Noah. His sword's tip slides through his lower chest, causing Noah's to bleed a bit through his clothing.

The only remaining hobgoblin from the initial group of intruders, hobgoblin(B) seeks to settle the score with Hammer. He faces Hammer and swings his longsword. The blade cuts into one of Hammer's wooden joints, but only slightly damaging it.

Hammer returns the favor by smashing his skull in with a calculated strike. The Warforged then turns his attention to the goblin and plants himself close.

The goblin angrily and carelessly positions himself to throw the torch at Hammer. Seeing an opening, Hammer strikes the goblin hitting a solid blow. It throws the torch and Hammer side steps it. However the ground around him begins to light up in flames. The beaten and bloodied goblin swiftly jumps away from the fire(shift to O-4).

    Spoiler: show

I decided to roll Hammer's Opportunity Attack to make things go by quicker. Here are the rolls:

    Hobgoblin Longsword Attack (1d20+6=11)

Hobgoblin Longsword Attack 2 (1d20+6=21) and 5 Damage (Noah is at HP: 18 )

Hobgoblin Longsword Attack 3 (1d20+6=19) and 5 Damage (Hammer is at HP: 24)

    Hammer's OA vs Goblin; Damage (1d20 7=18, 1d10 5=10)

Goblin Torch Attack vs Reflex (1d20+6=13)

Would you like to rethink your turn magus? The hobgoblin is standing right next to you. To move farther than a single square(which would only be a shift) or to use Lance of Faith would provoke an OA.

Also sorry for the delay. I went and ate dinner midway. I'll get working on the new map, but I'm awaiting Noah's turn to see if it changed.

    EDIT:

    Spoiler: show
I hear your concern, but then it opens a whole new set of problems like scheduling. I'm willing for a format change if it comes down to it though. The idea of using two formats together does sound good.

I think the best solution would be to plan the round out a little first, so you guys can work together. Like say I'm probably going to do this, so... before you actually write up your turns. There's no limit on how much you can discuss strategy during a round. Guys are active enough that it wouldn't seem to add TOO much time to rounds.

EDIT 2: If we are going to go through ideas, let's bring it up in the OoC thread.

Noah lets out a shout and throws up his hands the holy symbol in his left hand glowing brightly as he glares at the Hobgoblin H, gripping the wound on his chest with his right hand he sidesteps away from the hobgoblin. He brings his left hand to his chest, gripping the symbol with both hands over the wound, as he begins casting another Lance.

    Spoiler: show
I'll shift and then Lance of Faith
Lance of Faith @ Hobgoblin H Reflex [Give resulting +2 attack to Hammer] (1d20+4=12, 1d8+4=9)

Thanks Zilong, I didn't even think of that lol

    Spoiler: show
I'd check if your opportunity attack resulting from him moving hits and kill it first before using the action points. Also, you could just shift out of his threat range and blast the lance of faith from 1 square away instead of directly adjacent to him instead of blowing your encounter power >_>

Also, nothing on my nature check on the goblin and the perception check on whatever's going on outside the tavern?

Oh yes, I almost forgot sorry!

Although you see nothing specific like another goblin, you noticed the light of fire coming through the windows. It is as if there is a fire somewhere outside.

Concerning this goblin, you know the following:
-This goblin is a Goblin Blackblade
-It's a small natural humanoid. (No keywords)

    Spoiler: show
Cause Fear would also be a ranged attack provoking an OA. Any power with the "Range" does that if you are next to an opponent. You can shift then do a Range power if you'd like. You can also just eat the OA if you'd like.

Ok, sorry about any annoyances. Going to guess you shifted to G-6

The hobgoblin just barely manages to avoid the spear of light.

The patrons in the tavern seem to no longer feel like they are in danger. They watch as you four are able to not only fight the goblins, but win. You even hear a cheer, "Get those ugly dogs!"

Variz notices the fire outside, realizing that something bigger might be going on outside, he decided to finish off the remaining annoyances in his way. He glared at the hobgoblin in front of him, and swing both of his swords at it.

    Spoiler: show
Twin strike on Hobgoblin F (11, 10 attack rolls, 7,9 damage rolls)
If those landed and kill the goblin (unlikely) and Somoe didn't kill the hobgoblin fighting noah move to H-5 and taunt the hobgoblin fighting noah as a free action, if somoe kill the hobgoblin, move to O-5 to help hammer with the remaining goblin.

If it doesn't land, shift to K-8

Invisible Castle is not loading for me. I'm getting a "500 - Internal Server Error" page. Got tired of waiting so I'll just roll at home. You guys can't really do this so we'll have to wait invisible castle is up or the game on Sunday.

The hobgoblin(H) is able to shake off Somoe's bolt of magic without any noticeable damage.

The second(F) hobgoblin also is blessed with luck as he is able to dodge not one, but two of Variz's sweeping attacks.

The hobgoblins swiftly counterattack to make good of their luck. Hobgoblin(H) makes two steps forward(move to G-5) and attempts to finish Noah off. He swings forward with his weight behind it and connects. Noah is cut again, another slash across his chest.

Hobgoblin(F) chases after Variz(L-8) and attempts to stab him. Variz is able to block the attack with one of his blades.

Hammer is able hit and smash the goblin's face in with force behind his shield. The goblin flies back, crashing into a chair, but still standing. He is a bloody mess and looks panicked over the fact he has been corned.

Mad with terror he lashes out in a disparate attempt cut his way an escape. However, his short sword simply bounces off of Hammer's shield. He screams and quickly shuffles behind another chair(Shift to O-2)

    Spoiler: show
    Attack 1: Hobgoblin rolled 12(+6)=18. 5 Damage.

Attack 2: Hobgoblin rolled 8(+6)=14. Miss.

Attack 3: Goblin rolled 4(+5)=9. Miss.

I'd roll this attack, but invisiblecastle is down for me too. I'll edit this post with rolls later

Combat Challenge (WIS mod added) vs. AC (1d20+8=22, 1d10+5=6)

Somoe appears disappointed with Noah's performance so far, and sends a bolt of magic at his foe out of pity.

Hammer relentlessly goes after the goblin, still attacking with both hammer and shield

Noah lets go of his chest, realizing he needs to focus and eliminate the threat.

"Alright, enough of this," he calmly says lifting his beacon in the air as it glows brightly, the wound on his chest slowly closing the blood fading from his skin.

Somoe's single silvery bolt hits her target dead. The hobgoblin crumbles to the ground.

Only one Hobgoblin remaining. Variz first swing is easily dodged by the hobgoblin. With a proud look on his face, he is ready to return the favor. However, Variz's second strike rips into his ribs. He gasps for air for a moment, then slides off the bastard sword.

    The battle has finished.

Four patrons have been killed in the attack, two injured, and just about all of them frightened beyond belief. On the ground lay the hobgoblins and the one goblin. The fire started by the goblin is being put out by two patrons.

"Phew, been awhile since I've been caught in a tavern surrounded by Hobgoblins. Good memories!" Noah remarks sarcastically, casting a glance back at Somoe, smirking, "Looks like you had no trouble rising to the occasion though, Somoe."

"At any rate, we should head outside and make sure the area is secure before we rest on our laurels."

    Spoiler: show

Variz look at his surrounding, at the dead patrons and goblins alike. He swings his bloodied blade to get rid of the pieces of the slain goblin from it before sheathing them.

"I don't suppose any of you have idea on who's responsible for this" he said to his new companions.

He examines the corpse of the goblin, seeking for any emblems of sort to identify their allegiance.

Which perception check would be appropriate for this? Would I have time to take 20? Should I just leave for passive? Or should I roll for it?

    Take 20: 28
    Passive Perception: 18
    Perception Roll: 19

Use whichever's appropriate for the situation

On the goblin's armor is a crude painting of a wolf. The hobgoblins also have something similar on their armor.

    Spoiler: show
Didn't really need to make a perception check. But now History would of use.
