However, in all cases where the person buying or applying has no record, its moot. That's where the psych eval comes in at for the school district, and even then, there's the chance that the person is coherent enough to pass it and then go off on their rampage.
This is the same logical flaw many of you keep making. Getting illegal guns is not hard, not selling crazy people guns does not keep them out of their hands. Hell in most the country buying an illegal gun is easier than going through legal channels. And if your intent is to commit mass murder, why the fuck do you care about buying legal guns?

Criminals and Crazies are not playing by the rules to begin with, why is that so hard to understand?

Individual teachers aren't going be advertising that they will be carrying guns. So all those fearing that it just gives the students a target to mug for their weapon shouldn't be so worried.

Also to those saying it just makes the guns more accessable to the students who may not have been able to get their hands on one otherwise... There are currently armed police officers in school districts all around the country, and they carry their guns out where everyone can see them. I haven't researched this in depth, but I haven't heard of any incidents of a police officer in school being mugged for his gun so a student can go on a rampage.

How exactly does a teacher having a gun encourage crimes of passion against students? what bizarre scenario are we imagining here?

Even then, in many crimes of passion the victim ends up beat to death with a blunt object, not having a gun doesn't make it not happen.

You just quoted the person that said the exact same thing as you. I did not deny the fact that if they want to kill someone with an illegal firearm its not hard to get one in a district that size, nor is hard to find one. My whole reason on bringing that up is that if someone does get pissed, and they are one of the ones to be certified in the first place, they will more than likely have the cognizance to compose themselves and act rationally, or they've already put on the facade of being in control and would have done it either way. EDIT for Clarity: Regardless of what the choose to do, the reason why they do this eval is so that they can hold the person accountable under their insurance and single them out if they do manage to hit an innocent.

And my quote for effect from the exact same post no less.

So, where any one asshole having a bad day, or someone who's a felon who can't legally buy a gun, will get them if they want them.

I'm talking about the availability of a gun in any given situation. guns make killing easy, and ease of opportunity can be an influence in passion/opportunity crime. Shooting someone is much less effort than beating them with a blunt object, for example. I'm speaking generally about guns though, not necessarily specifically about teachers carrying/guns being in school zones.

Personally, I'm more scared of getting hit with a GRAND UPPAH than getting shot... and Axel doesn't even exist.

The cop at my high school was authorized to beat the crap out of anyone who tried to touch his gun. I never heard of anyone who tried.

Funny for a supposed Libertarian to be condescending about criticizing government use of force, especially when it's excessive. But then again you support Barr, so being a disingenuous authoritarian hack isn't surprising.

uh, the police represent force exerted by the government. they certainly aren't private. I kinda don't get conservatives who tout the 2nd as necessary for protection against government oppression then ride police cock when the authoritarian asshole cop of the year beats the shit out of someone/tases them to hell/gets really trigger-happy/etc.

no, the military represents force exerted by the government. The police represent limited, controlled protection (to serve and protect blah blah)

Police is ran by local and state level government. Military, sans National Guard, is ran by the federal government.

Ignoring your inadequate scope of "force", police tazing someone with a broken back 19 times is neither serving or protecting.

Which is run by a local government. Can we stop now? I get the feeling that regardless of them allowing the teachers to have guns or not, a school shooting is still very unlikely, so who cares?

If this works well for this school district, other districts may adopt it when they see that school shootings are successfully deterred, here.

If by works well, you mean gets attacked by a gunmen multiple times as unlikely as that is and somehow avoids casualties higher than say, 5, then yea.

I meant works well as a deterrent, like my anti-elephant rock. I haven't seen any elephants around in ages, so it must be working pretty well. Maybe other districts will adopt it if this school doesn't get a shooting in a while.
