So now that it's cool to hate merchandising can we go back and make threads to berate people that payed $25 for a digital Harpsichord? (CD my ass?) Cause none of you were saying jack motherfucking shit back then.

Seriously, everyone needs to shut the fuck up.

hmm, well I do believe I would have ordered this already if it were possible to order it with a Canadian credit card, and get it shipped to Canada. I can more than likely get it shipped to family in the US, but that might just make this just enough of a pain in the ass to make me not bother.

    Ok who am I kidding, yes I will probably go through the hassle and do that, but holy crap did SE ever botch this for Canadians ; ;

Yeah, I noticed as I kept a look out for a new update note. (Even though I figured that it would be released tomorrow.) Destiny is modeling it.

Not to mention that paying for monthly fees and expansions is giving players the opportunity to better their characters through, you know, playing the game, whereas this is just paying cash to directly better one's character.*

Oh so it's not ok because you aren't getting much, but it is ok if you get a lot of stuff.

    Yeah that makes perfect sense.

If you need any more help digging yourself deeper into a hole let me know.

And also: people who are bitching they are charging $43 for a $5 item: you are stupid. First off; learn economics. most of the stuff you own probably has the same markup percentage. You think the $1000 computer you are typing on cost $1000 to make? yeah..... no. Second; although it may be close, no one except the manufacturer knows how much it costs to make. And a lot of the price going into other things like advertising etc etc etc (as is the same with most products.)

Again, you might as well make an analogy about how a valuable baseball card shouldn't be worth a lot of money because it is only cardboard.

Really? You do know that it's the typical cost for video game music of this type right? That it's not out of the realm of possibility that some of us just wanted the music and were elated to hear that it also came with an in-game item. This is how all these things should be, and I dont understand why you're using the example of how they did this well. Maybe thats why none of them said "jack motherfucking shit" back then.

They packaged it as an extra with a normally priced item which to collectors and game music enthusiasts was a must.

I would buy it in terms of liking and collecting unusual jewelery if it wasn't just such a piece of trash. That's my issue with it - the simulated leather and plated metal mean it's basically unwearable anyhow (especially if like me you have quite easily aggravated allergies). At least the people who bought harpsichords got a CD that's a decent quality product with it. This does just scream "cynical cash in" to me.

If SE sold something with the quality of the nation keyrings etc - which happened to come with an in-game code... fine... but seriously it's the fact that it's an incredibly trashily made item that gets to me - maybe I'm nuts in that I buy things for the real-world stuff and a virtual code is just a bonus or something.

And I reckon Cid would be a Pepsi man myself.

It all tastes the same after 30+ years of smoking.

I admit the fact that the in-game item glows is pretty hot, but I have to agree with Cesaria.
It might've been worth it if it weren't a piece of shit, but it is, so it isn't.

For all the people complaining: we asked for this. We moaned when every little FFXI trinket the JP populace could buy came with an in-game item code and the rest of us got nothing. Now SE levels they playing field offering more trinkets with codes for all and what do we do? We start moaning and groaning all over again accusing them of RMT. In fact, they even gave us something else we were asking for; equipment that has special graphical effects on it as it was noted the pentant gives off a pulsating glow every few seconds. Some of you just need to get over yourselves. SE is a business, and the last time I checked businesses are out there to make money. The great thing about capitalism is if you don't see the value in something, you don't have to buy it; for those that do find what's being offered worthwhile it's still there. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on whether or not the "Player's Collection" is worth the money, but just because you don't want do/can't spend your money on it, don't get angry with those that can.

As for myself, I'm still on the fence. While I wouldn't wear the pendant, I do think it would look great on a shelf I have with a buch of other knicknacks (various stones, old IDs/name tags, memorabelia, etc). The in-game item is pretty nifty even if it shares the same recast as the Nomad Cap, and definitely stands out with the glowing pentant. We'll see.

The problems with this whole thing is as follows:

    1) This necklace has nothing to do with FFXI.
    2) It's alot more expensive then the super awesome music CD (which I still would have bought even w/o the piano)

    Also you cant forget:

    3) The in game item sucks ass. You cant use it out of towns, and the towns you go to all suck. I would drop $50 in a heartbeat if when I used it a little menu came up asking which town I wanted to go to. Instead we get to go from Jeuno to Kazham. You know whats in Kazham? Neither do I cause it sucks and I havn't been there in years.

If anything, I see this necklace as the most advantage for people who set their HPs in home nation. So set your HP in home nation and WARP, Kuno, you freakin' whiny ass BLM. ;P

/shrug, the nation choice menu would be nice, but if anything the necklace is trying to offer alternatives to routes with no other fast alternatives (Whitegate <--> Nashmau, Selbina <--> Mhaura, Jeuno <--> Kazham), and/or make it one step to do so (home nations --> Jeuno: /cheer, I fucking hate going through Whitegate).

I go there to party at low level, but if you think about it, you're paying $50 to get there ahead of your party, and sit afk for 30 mins while they dick about with Airships and whatnot, so technically it's not REALLY saving time.

You can take your entire party with you. More than likely there will be one or two pricks who haven't quested their kazham pass, so your statement is still valid, lol.

Yeah, that's the other thing with the whining about where porting in Jeuno takes you - if it's for your whole party, what if they don't want to go to the same nation? And why do home nation when there's Moogle Caps for that.

    /shrug

In all likelihood they used cheap materials to keep the cost down. This is being promoted as a collector's item, so it isn't going to have a price of a trinket no matter how much it resembles a trinket. As a comparison, a higher quality Final Fantasy necklace like the one below is $170. Considering I wouldn't where any of this cosplay crap, $43 is a little more conducive should I want to hang the trinket as a Christmas ornament.

Had the price been ten dollars cheaper perhaps not as many people would be bitching, but they're a business and they're going to charge what they can get away with - the same as every other goddamn business. It's not "RMT" (anyone that gives a significant shit about the benefits of the teleports hasn't been playing this game long) - it's marketing.
