I think this is a great example of how virtual and real life economics mingle together! I think the idea is great - of course most of the customers will toss the real pendant and use the in-game item, but the whole idea rocks.
Only what's really bothersome is that the in-game item WILL NOT belong to you - it belongs to the Square Enix company (so as your char and your items that you pay each month for). So I'm wondering how it will be done from a legal and customer point of view.
I'm guessing that the backdoor is to sell a real life item and say - also you'll receive a bonus in-game item that it's not really yours.
The world is changing so fast....
Well, some chinese guy won a trial against a company publishing a MMO about an issue like this ( he paid for an in-game item, the company nerfed it and had to un-nref his item).
I really find the concept disgusting.
There are MMOs that work around this concept, however, these MMO are free to play.
SE is basically asking us to pay twice: for the shop and for the monthly subscription.
What's next ? A item that teleports to Fafnir and Tiamat, tracks windows and claims 100% for $ 300 ?
They might as well add a 100% drop on ridill and gaiters for people buying their items, so players will be able to make money by selling rare items to other players.
New way to legally organize RMTing by players and SE
/irony off
I'm really shocked because lots of players here seems to find that shit cool.
Yea, but isn't that a lot of Imperial Standing ? Since I've hit Captain the only thing I use my imperial standing for is Silver Coins to cover limbus costs. I'm also saving some IS for another Perdu Wand for my WHM.
Anyway, did SE explain how it will be used? I understand what it does but my browser at work filters videos and flash images so I can't see any of the pictures.![]()
Are people seriously getting butthurt over this? If you dont want it, dont buy it.
I could understand people moaning if they were introducing something that was actually game breaking or gave people who purchased a distinct advantage over non participating players. When SE are giving out haste +6% Neckpieces or Magic Accuracy +25 rings for RL money then by all means have a moan, but seriously, your getting emo because a few people can skip the boat once every 24 hours or so.
Also, what else were they to do to promote the real necklace? they gave some photos of it so you can see what your getting and they gave a description. Did you expect some camera footage of some chump missing his train to work, and then suddenly appearing at the office because he has this item?
Ah, fail update notes are fail. Another start of a wonderful week.
Silver plated... synthetic leather... damn what's next? Genuine diamonique settings?
God SE if you're going to sell stuff - make it at least semi-justifiable quality for the expense - this is just pure and utter crap that belongs on freaking QVC.
Hell - sell cute things like plushies or moogle silly hats - I'd buy those all day.
I don't have issues with them selling something that means you can skip the boat - I have issues with the fact it's an utter crap real life item.
I'm not paying $45 for a portable this:

that thing is hella ugly, why couldn't they just let you buy the in-game item alone? lol
I hope SE give over with this because it's stuff I want but don't want to buy, but it makes them money and people buy it so I can't see that happening
Reading this, it would appear that subsequent Players' Collection releases won't be accompanied by in-game items; that this is simply a means to kickstart interest in the line and ensure a sizeable base of players to judge the quality.Bonus offer: In commemoration of the release of the “Final Fantasy XI Players’ Collection”, all buyers will also receive the “Tidal Talisman” in-game item
Of course, then the second, third, fourth piece of jewellery gets released (these without in-game items) and sales plummet to 5% of what Tidal Talisman managed..
<SE Marketing Dude> Okay, guys? Listen, we really need to start brainstorming excuses for more Commemorative Bonus Offers...
When they start selling Artifact and Relic armor replicas, then I'll show some interest.
the mother fuck does this necklace have to do with ffxi they sell that shit at the county fair
Just purchased mine and got this in an e-mail from SE:...

I'm guessing they're putting the item in-game on next month's update, but waiting past October for the item would be ridiculous...
So what happens if you use it outside of town? It does nothing? That's kind of shitty.
But other then that it is kind of cool and I might get it. Maybe. :/ Seems useful for Ein. lol
