Jesus, shut the fuck up about the RMT thing. "UR PAYN REEL MONIES FOR INGAME STUUUUFFZ!" Guess what, you do that every single month when you pay for the game. You did it when you bought the expansions. These ingame items are not items that are being farmed or monopolized by a select group of gamers, only to sell it back to the community for blood prices. This is not gil that's being jacked up in value and spit back out at an inflated cost. This will not affect the ingame gil-economy one single bit! This will not create level 75 players who doesn't know the simple basics of their job, because the item does not allow them to merrily skip across 50-75 levels of exp and learning to play.

SE wants money? OMG REALLY?!? Well, color me surprised! Here I thought they were a charity origanization dedicated solely to bringing us the best of the best free MMOs out there. Their customer service is still sorely lacking after all these years - some areas have improved, others have not - but that does not in any way change the fact that this is SE's company, their business, to run as they damn well please. At the present moment, there are areas of their business I'm not happy with, but overall I think it's worth it to keep paying the monthly fee for the game. If you don't, shut the fuck up and GTFO, instead of sitting around and QQ'ing over it.

I really hope this isn't the start of "Buy this necklace and get a free in game Ridill, only $200", they really are just using the cheap necklace to cover up the fact they are milking their shitty game for all it's worth.

I think there is a reason they didn't show a SS of the ingame item like they do for other stuff. It makes me wonder exactly this... or.... the item will most likely be on anywhere from a 24-72hr CD...

I'm really shocked because lots of players here seems to find that shit cool.

how stupid are you? did you consider that if they gave you nothing but the necklace most people who are planning to buy it would end up with an extra $45? if they want to give me $45 for nothing, i'll take it.

So many people on BG need to quit FFXI and move on. Square's poked you in the eye like 50 times, but yet you sit around and let them poke you again and again and all you can do is sit there getting jabbed while saying "Stupid Square always poking me in the eye!" when all you'd have to do is stand up and walk away for it to be over.

Straw man argument much? Did I say SE is evil? Did I say did or didn't want this item? Did I say I was still playing this game? No. I'm not surprised that SE is doing this, they've already been doing it to a lesser extent with the in-game items from buying a fanfest ticket, and the furniture from the soundtrack. This time it's a bit different thou, since the real-life component to this sale is a complete piece of shit, that SE knows virtually no one would want. The soundtrack I have no idea on, but I would like to think most people bought fanfest tickets, to actually go to fanfest. In this case people are basically just buying the in-game item, which is blatant RMT. No, I don't blame SE for doing it, if I was in their shoes, I would be doing the same thing, and laughing at your dumb-asses.

I was mostly surprised at the number of people in this thread so happy to shell out their money for this shit. I would have expected it from alla, but not BG. Comparing paying to play the game, to paying for a virtual item? Really? I didn't pay a monthly fee to SE for my characters items and equipment, I paid for them to maintain the server I play on, occasionally update the game, and to you know, play the game. I don't really see the correlation, but since you guys think it's pretty much the same thing, than RMT between actual players must be ok also right? Not talking about buying gil from farmers that cockblock your shit, but the players that sell accounts/kclubs/gil for real money when they quit. Is it bad because it's against the ToS? If yes, than what about windower? Is it bad because people are supposed to earn in-game items/equipment inside the game rather than buying them with real money? Oh wait.

i think the "real" issue behind RMT, be it from SE or a 3rd party source, is that it exploits people's addiction for monetary gain.

the reason most people are pissed is because the in-game item is actually convenient and a nice thing to have, but the only way to get one is by paying over $50 for something that 95% of the player base wouldn't have bought anyway.

its no surprise, SE is a business, and businesses operate off of demand and very sneaky tactics, but this is a direct exploit of their playerbase's addiction to achieve nice items in the game

to sum it up, i think everyone has looked at the irl item and been like "thats kinda a piece of junk", and then everyone looks at the ingame item and says "oh that's kinda neat". but SE is severely overpricing something that probably costs $2 to make and the only way they're getting away with it is because they know that the severity of the addiction of enough of their playerbase will bring them lots of money.

i don't like the fact that i have to have an ethical debate within myself to decide wether or not i should pay irl money for an ingame item that i know isn't worth it. and i feel bad for the people who can't discern they're being taken advantage of.

    anyways, just my 2cents

People act like this item is so wonderful when in reality it barely does anything at all. The only real timesaver involved with using the item is to go from Jeuno to Kazham as there's no real fast way to get there. In reality you save maybe a few minutes, yet people act like it's a freaking pair of sunglasses that lets you shoot citadel buster from your eyes.

I'll agree with the people whining when they add something that's actually a major enhancement that puts others at an advantage. As is, this item can only benefit others seeing as how it can teleport more than just yourself. Jeeze.

Selling of an item that offers a bonus in-game item isn't technically RMT.

The good majority of every Korean MMO does something similar. I have played several Korean MMOs, and still play Mabinogi, and it's nothing new to me. I've already paid for extra space and character "rebirth" for Mabinogi.

RMT, or real money trade, as the name implies, deals mainly with the issue of in-game characters trading in-game currency or in-game items in exchange for real life money. This activity is considered to be a violation of a game's terms of service and/or end user license agreement. This, in effect, has legal consequences. RMT activity solicited by in-game players are not sanctioned, allowed, or carried out by the game's company and without their approval.

At the least when the company does it themselves, like selling an in-game pet like for Mabinogi or selling a $42.99 (before S/H) pendant like for FFXI for an in-game enchanted teleport pendant, they aren't violating anything or constituting in an act of RMT. It is RMT per se, but at the very least it's done by the approval and sanctioned by Square-Enix.

In best terms, to Square-Enix, it's just "good business."

Agree here, and while I don't think that they'll eventually sell items that give players an advantage over others, I do think it's shitty that instead of incorporating an item into the game that we all pay subscriptions for, they make you throw down ANOTHER $50 for it instead. I see value in a fan festival ticket, or a piece of jewelry people would actually wear, or a t-shirt, whatever... I see the value there. But in my eyes, this item was created just to gain an extra buck.

It's something to think about - where do you draw a line and say "hey, as a subscriber I should have access to this item" and where do you write something off as an exclusive collectible ala fan festival?

I think we may be on-to something here. There was a "bug" a while back that gave us the Boat-Warp to Nashmau. I can't think of anyone (barring Proteus hunters) who saw that as a bad thing.

I'll predict that they'll add an item that will allow buffs to affect pets as well, and another that decreases the casting time for WHM PUPs, like those "bugs" that were released to critical acclaim for a short time. Perhaps also the Mazurka-flee bug too, if we can remember that far back Or even one that reproduces the 2-hander 1:1 STR:ATK DEX:ACC bug.

You mean to say they KNOW these things are bugged but will fix them with an item you have to pay for?

    Wow, that's... very clever indeed.

Ahem. How stupid are *you*? I've read this post a good five or six times and I still can't understand how you went from "Paying $45 for a necklace" to "Magic fairies leaving cash under my pillow".

Dude, you don't even know what a strawman argument is let alone what it even means. You also don't understand the fallacy of the slippery slope argument, and I don't even think you understand that you are trying to make a slippery slope argument. The only person that thinks it is the same thing is you, and thats why I think you are so freaking stupid.

If you don't play anymore, then you are just one of those douche bag bitter idiots that hangs around just to "remind" how bad things are for everyone else, when no one else fucking cares.
